Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Mar 07, 2012 5:54 pm hi, we are currently at the beginning of out build in eden gardens epping , actually recently completed tender and have contracts next week.....we also have to do our front landscaping desing to hand in as per estate guidelines. i know costs can vary greatly depending on size, materials etc....but we were just wondering to get a rough outline of the finished price cost from people with experience in the filed or have been through the process recently. we have a 14 metre frontage and our house is set back 4 metres and the garage 6.5 metres....so once you take out the driveway wich will be done by our builder i guess your roughly looking at maybe....10m x 4 m We are looking for something pretty easy to maintain as neither of us are 'green thumbs' some key words would probably be minimal, clean, tidy, modern, but have estate rules saying we need a few established trees and plants etc...we are not overly keen to have a big lawn...if any..but again have rules on not too much pebbles etc....oh and we both like the darker mulch i know its not much to go on but any ideas...any help at all would be fantastic Re: front landscaping costs 2Mar 09, 2012 12:31 pm I think $5k will get you a basic front garden from most landscapers but it won't be very good. There are thousands of topics on this and the only way to get the info is really to start trawling through then on here. A basic point though: Dark/Black mulch is a No No. It will make your garden use more water and its colored so whatever is used to color it will leech into the soil and create an imbalance or poison it. The best options are raw/green mulches with out colors added. Re: front landscaping costs 4Mar 09, 2012 1:58 pm about 5 - 7k for ours which includes turf, pop up sprinkler system, 2x garden beds with mulch etc same size roughly as your front http://lindeman28.blogspot.com - Our building blog Re: front landscaping costs 5Mar 09, 2012 6:29 pm You could do it yourself for way way cheaper than employing a landscaper. Just invite a few friends to help shovel soil and mulch if you need help. We've shovelled over 10m3 ourselves recently and it's great exercise. Some suggestions (prices based on Doreen area in Melb) * good quality soil - $48m3 + $22 delivery * good quality mulch - $50m3 + $22 delivery (proper mulch not the coloured red/black "mulch" which is actually pulped wooden pallets and not the real deal) * variety of native plants which can be purchased at local nurseries or cheaply over the internet - look at fernview.com.au or gardenexpress.com.au. Most plants range from $2-$6, grown in the Dandenong ranges and will arrive within the week. * Think native daisies, pig face succulents etc. for ground cover. Kangaroo paw for feature. * medium bushes- westringia, banksia, grevilleas * trees - try a grafted eucalyptus tree as a feature Check out the websites I've mentioned for some great ideas.
