Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Mar 02, 2012 9:47 am Hi, ok so we have this section on the side of the house that barley gets any sun due to the position of it and the retaining wall. The section is 1m wide x 20m in length... the ground is clay and when it gets wet it gets very very muddy and soft... It has been like this for the whole build. Now we tried to do our best and get it looking decent but becuase it doesnt get much sun it remains wet and soft. Our plan is to get that area concreted but the concreter said it needs to be somewhat dry.. is this the case? What can we do to get it solid again or to the point the concreter can actually concrete that area? Re: Need to concrete side of house - ground is very wet 2Mar 06, 2012 9:29 am We had a very similar problem when our place was being built - not a good feeling to check out the build progress and finding deep puddles of mud all around the side of the slab! I'm assuming you've sorted out the drainage? If not, there are some things you should do first- Is the retaining wall 'above' the area? If so, you'd need to make sure that it has adequate drainage and isn't contributing to your problem. Does the area drain naturally at all? If there is any kind of slope you may need to dig some channels to encourage the water down the natural slope when it rains. If it appears to be dead flat, you could still try digging something like a french drain to get the water away from the area. We opted for a less permanent solution than concrete - compacted road base with some cement mixed in. It sets fairly hard but we could still pull it up with the mattock if we need to.
