Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Mar 01, 2012 10:15 am Hi Guys I have a major issue with rain water run off. My house is on a sloping block and rain water during heavy downpours causes me a few headaches. Now when we had the real heavy rains on the 25th Jan (Gold Coast) the run off was intense. My thinking of a resolution is to do the following 1 - Level out the soil gradient on the lawn area 2 - Install bush rock garden edging (more for aesthetics but also to stop leaves and other debris items flowing down and blocking the drains) 3- Change pebble perimeter path with concrete that has linked drainage to storm water outlet and also a slight gradient against the house brickwork that will direct water to the drainage and away from the property. Before I embark on this exercise would any experts be able to run their eye across the images and advise if I am going to solve my issue. I already have drainage at points of the perimeter that seem ok and are lined to the storm water system but I'm looking at a long term option. I have a collection of images to help aid the info above here. Its a PDF file uploaded to sendspace. Its very low in size so should only take a few seconds to d/l/ http://www.sendspace.com/file/q98bbl Looking forward to your advice Re: STORM WATER RUN OFF PROJECT ADVICE 2Mar 01, 2012 8:23 pm I've had a similar problem before but with water runoffs from the neighbour's side. To resolve my problem I've built a retaining wall with drainage to catch the water runoff which linked them to the stormwater down pipes. I've posted some pictures in the following post hope will give you some ideas. viewtopic.php?f=19&t=52286&p=799281#p799281 Maybe you can get someone to cut the concrete right below those step-down areas and install those U channel drains to catch all the water and direct them into the downpipes, but it might be costy. Re: STORM WATER RUN OFF PROJECT ADVICE 3Mar 02, 2012 11:44 am Kio - That's some work you have done there mate I don't think I can afford such extensive works, what was the cost of the project? Do you think my plan is not worth the paper considering the efforts you have gone to? Thanks for the reply Re: STORM WATER RUN OFF PROJECT ADVICE 4Mar 15, 2012 6:34 pm Mook you dont need to spend a lot if your willing to put in the hard work yourself. I got a quote for $8k to dig out soil and put in drainage down the side of my house. I did it myself. Cost me probably $200 for the ag pipe, drainage fabric, connectors to stormwater etc. My time is cheap as i earn a pittance anyways Id be putting ag pipe along the back lawn behind the retaining wall and then adding drains running along the front of the retaining wall and also before the step down. Ive only done the one drain so im sure more experienced people can advise. Hello I am developing 2 side by side units.
