Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Feb 29, 2012 7:45 pm I'm currently reading through the Soil Prep & Turf Laying post. I have a few questions
Is there such a thing as too much zeolite and/or spongolite? Our turf area is approx 100m2, any recommendations of how much I'll need? I'm having trouble sourcing these at the moment (in Bunbury WA), is there anything else that would work the same? I've found bentonite clay - is this any good? Still have a couple of places to try tomorrow, so fingers crossed I'll find the good stuff We've spread 5m3 of soil conditioner over approx 100m2 (I know this isn't the best, but it's all our budget would allow). Do we spread the zeolite and spongolite (providing we can find some) over the top of this, and then rotary hoe? Should it be soaking wet/dry/slightly moist when we rotary hoe? Is this basic plan correct? 1. Soil prep as above. Anything else we should add? 2. Install reticulation/irrigation. 3. Level soil & compact. 4. Lay turf - borders first, fill the border laying each row in the opposite direction. 5. Compact turf. 6. Apply molasses, water in well. 7. Keep soil moist, watering twice a day. 8. Weekly seasol for the first month or so, then two weekly, then monthly. Is that correct? Do we lay the turf directly onto the compacted soil? Will the roots be able to take if the soil is compacted too much? Is there such a thing as too much soil compaction prior to laying turf? There may be a few weeks between now & when we eventually lay the turf, should we keep the soil moist during this time? Or just give it a soaking before laying the turf? If there's anything I've missed, please let me know We've been in our house almost two years, so this grass has been a long time coming, I'd really love to get it right (within budget too, of course. Oh how I wish money weren't a factor). Thanks Re: More turf laying questions - zeolite in the south west? 2Mar 01, 2012 12:17 pm Just another question, does anyone know where to source zeolite & spongolite in the South West? I've tried: Wight & Emmett Bunbury Hydroponics Picton Produce Better Pets & Gardens Parklands Garden Elders Landmark Bunbury Pool & Spa Mart Thanks ETA - just called Waldecks and they asked was it for a pond. I said I was using it as a soil additive. He said he only had the type for ponds. I asked what the difference was, but he wasn't 100% sure. Is there any difference?? Thanks again!
