Hi everyone,
We're laying a pathway down the side of our house and I thought I'd post a few photos for anyone interested. The idea was to turn a messy, dirty, weedy drainage problem into something more manageable, better draining and easier on the eye for access down the side of the house through to the back yard. Over the weekend we opted to dig 5-10cm of soil out and then lay compacted road base graded away from the house and into the drainage. It was our first go at this and although we were absolutely knackered from the work, we're pretty happy with the progress thus far. Next step is laying stepping stone pavers with tile glue, and then a layer of light decorative pebbles of some sort to pretty it up and (hopefully) reflect the sun rather than absorb it like this dark road base might.

9 hours, 40-odd wheelbarrow fulls of rock-hard clay and a couple of tested friendships later, we had the soil excavated and ready for the road base:

The end result (until we save enough money and time to get the pavers and pebbles down)
