Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Feb 11, 2012 2:52 pm Hi Everyone, Hopefully someone can help me out with this. My orange tree is struggling a bit, well, it's struggling a lot now really. It's never been fast growing or anything, it was doing fairly well in a big pot I had it in, and even after moving it it's been doing ok, but since about a month or so ago, it's been going down hill. There are a few things that all started around the same time that could be contributing: -Lots of hot, humid days and nights. -I planted some seedlings on the same retic section and set it to water for a few minutes each day for the first two weeks(this was before I realised how much of a problem over watering can be). -I also starting peeing on it fairly regularly and I think that possibly didn't help if over watering was the issue. The main reason I started doing that was because although it was doing ok, it really wasn't growing. It was green and looked healthy enough, but just didn't seem to be doing anything and I'd read/been told that peeing on citrus trees is good for them. My Empire Zoysia grass has been having what I suspect to be problems with fungis, which it is now over coming since I've reduced the water it's been getting and I think perhaps the orange tree may have suffered a similar trauma. The fact that a couple of mushrooms have appeared in it's mulch in the last few days tends to add to that suspicion. The soil was prepared Fu style when I laid the grass, and then I gave it a bit more goodness when I planted the tree. I really don't know what to do for it, I'm not sure if I should prune the dead wood, or leave it until a certain time of year. I really want to get it nice and strong again. Sorry, couldn't resist. I think jetson's advice might be accurate. And plant the next one in free draining soil. If your soil is clay based build up off the ground and incorporate some sand and organic matter to improve drainage. Citrus likes regular watering, but not wet feet Very common on rendered homes Smaller suppliers get the lower quality raw materials 6 9098 Hi , I'm currently going through this now within the Whitehorse council which has a similar set of restrictions.
