Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Jan 28, 2012 12:10 pm Hi Hoping someone can give me some advice. I have been given 3 gorgeous fairly well established Frangipanis. I have literally had them 3 days, and following a down pour on Australia Day and our extreme weather conditions in Perth over the last few days, they have sufferred fairly extensive leaf burning and are looking pretty sad. There are lots of new flowers budding and the plant doesn't look limp or anything. I water from the bottom only and have been told only around 2L of water 1-2 times per week. Can someone offer any advice as to how to care for these gorgeous plants? They have been lovingly grown by a family member and I would hate to kill them. I have moved them out of full sun so that they have a mixture of full sun/part shade during the course of the day. Is there a stress guard spray I might be able to use? Should i cut off the burnt leaves? At the moment they are just in large self watering plastic pots, but I will be repotting them into large lightweight terrazzo pots. Any advice would be very much appreciated. Thanks jbarry Re: Help! Frangipani - Leaves Burnt 2Feb 01, 2012 12:48 am Mine have done the same, as have my neighbours, and mine have been happily established in soil for 4 years (full sun all day). I don't think you did anything wrong, that week and a half of 40 plus degree weather here was just too much sun for anything, even the leaves on some of my native plants have got sunburn! I personally leave the leaves on my frangipanis until they fall off, give it a few months and the tree will be bald anyway ready for winter. If you don't like the look of the burnt leaves I don't think it'll harm the plant to pull them off, they'll just ooze a bit of white sap as they aren't ready to come off yet. I fertilise mine with NPK Blue (for leaf growth) and Osmocote (for flowers) with the occasional wettasoil, not sure if that's all they need but I get very good results from it, in 4 years one of my plants has gone from about 50cm tall to over 2m high and 2m wide There's a great frangipani nursery out on Gnangara Road (west of Ellenbrook), here's a link to their tips page http://tonyandsonsnurseries.com.au/tips.html Re: Help! Frangipani - Leaves Burnt 3Feb 01, 2012 5:50 pm Thanks so much for your reply and all those great tips. I ended up finding some info online saying to trim off the leaves leaving around 1 cm. I can't believe it, they are all shooting new leaves already, and they look so much better. I took this option to hide any evidence should my family member come to visit! I'll check out the tips on the website link you gave me. Thanks again. jbarry jbarry My build thread: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=25713 13th Oct - Offer on block 4th Dec - Settlement of block scheduled (delayed due to titles) 22nd Feb - Titles Issued 17th Mar - Land Settlement 17th Mar - Pre-start meeting Hi there, long-time lurker but first time posting. I've bought a house 2 and a bit years ago and last year we had some major water damage on a converted pergola area… 0 7897 Yes, unless you are in a low intensity rainfall area or the area is protected from rain. Do you have access to NCC Part 2 or can you download it? I can email you a copy… 10 12459 Thankyou so much 😀 I've decided on White on white for doors and trims, White on white 50% on ceiling and Mt buller for walls. Fingers crossed it will look OK 😀 2 7138 |
