Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Jan 26, 2012 9:55 pm I had planted a caprosma gold fever hedge (around 40 of them) about 6 months ago and they were doing really well with deep root watering once per week. I did feed them seasol and mulched them before summer hit us here in perth. For the past two weeks the leaves were looking burnt and black and were shedding. I thought the harsh hot wind was doing it. So i started watering them 2/7 and did lightly prune them. But the heat today has burnt all the leaves of about 10 of them and they definitely look like they are dying. Its an east facing garden. We are in Canningvale Perth. Can someone advise me urgently as to salvage my plants. I am heart broken as they were like my babies . Thanx for your advise and help Re: my caprosmas r dying in the heat.help!! Fu? anyone? urge 2Jan 27, 2012 8:24 am Keep the seasol up bi-weekly. Make sure the soil stays moist under the mulch don't let dry out completely while the plants are stressed. Also don't prune off the dead foliage, even though it looks horrible it protects the rest of the healthy foliage. There is really not much more you can do and there is really no point putting up shade cloth or using drought shield (a yate's product) because you will always have 40 degree days and heatwaves in perth and the plants just need to toughen up. Having said all that, if they are your babies cover them with Hessian or shade cloth on the 40 degree days. Re: my caprosmas r dying in the heat.help!! A light old sheet over the top on the 37+ days, seasol, water essential. and I would give them some droughtshield as this cuts transpiration. Light coloured cotton is better than a dark green shade cloth as it will burn the leaves if it touches them. They should come good in a few weeks especially if we get some of the cylone coming down the coast.
