Re: Bentonite Clay - Bunbury W.A. 3Jan 17, 2012 12:23 pm Hi Kex $19.95 for a kg bag and they have some in stock. Re: Bentonite Clay - Bunbury W.A. 4Jan 24, 2012 6:21 pm Can anyone tell me if size of the clay matters... I notice some are like corn sizes and some are more grounded down. Re: Bentonite Clay - Bunbury W.A. 5Jan 27, 2012 2:10 am its the fines of the clay and silt particles that you are interested in for amending sand. a natural good loam has equal levels of clay and silt, mixed with sand size particles. i believe all very fine particles, no matter what size the product comes in will help your soil. soil solver can be a bit lumpy, but watch them on your sand and the lumps just disappear in a short while. high magnesium/sodium clays will cause you problems though. Re: Bentonite Clay - Bunbury W.A. 6Feb 01, 2012 1:28 pm Hi All If you are looking to increase the CEC capacity you are better off using a Zeolite. Using Zeolite will give the soil an increased ability to hold onto Nutrient even under irrigation. If you use New Zealand Zeolite this will also enhance the soils ability to retain moisture and better porosity. Do not use Australian Zeolite as it is very dense + it has minimal/no ability to retain moisture. All combined plant stress will be reduced significantly. I pick some up from Milne Feeds in Welshpool. It was bagged up as "Watheroo Bentonite". Particle size ranged from fines to 2-3mm. The trusty hand driven fertilizer spreader worked fine with it. I started on the back lawn spreading 20kg on 30sqm of lawn. With hindsight, this was a little too heavy for a single application, but it still soaked in after a week. Front lawn is about 100sqm, so I spread a 20kg bag over that. Barely noticed it, and was gone after one watering. Applied another bag with the same result and will continue to do so. Found this product ideal for existing lawns and gardens, but go easy on application rates. Lightly and often works for me. Bentonite Clay - Bunbury W.A. 8Feb 17, 2012 10:41 am Bentonite can be bought from farm shops as a cattle feed additive. $15-20 for 20-25kg. Zeolite is easily available through Bunnings as zeochlor $20 for 15kg. There are Calcium and sodium Benotnites, the sodium bentonite is a swelling clay not ideally suited to the above mentioned application. Zeolites differ also and you will find the NZ Zeolite is very porus with a high CEC. You will get great moisture retention, enhanced nutrient holding and better soil porosity. Australian Zeo cannot offer these benefits. I've dug some footings to embed a post anchor into. My holes are around 450mm deep which I'll put a 200mm stirrup into. The bottom of these holes seem firm enough. … 0 3316 |
