Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Jan 12, 2012 10:48 pm I posted this in the general discussion section but thought I'd ask here too... We moved into our house a couple of weeks ago and every couple of nights I see one of these spiders. They are a fairly decent size and scare the crap out of me! They are always on the floor, never walls or up high. We have three kids and I'm a little worried as google hasn't been able to help me find an I.D. Also worth noting, is that in the photos the spider is already dead and covered in surface spray. Re: Spider I.D please 4Jan 13, 2012 8:32 am hmmm as per this website, it looks like they could be Wolf Spiders? Has similar markings on its back with the strip down the middle etc http://www.termite.com.au/spider-identi ... .html#wolf Spider I.D please 5Jan 13, 2012 8:54 am Thanks, I was thinking the same thing. Might need to get the house sprayed, don't like the idea of our kids being in a house with so many spiders. Re: Spider I.D please 7Jan 13, 2012 11:00 am yuk. i hate spiders. i used to get Wolf spiders in the house tooo.. at my old place... they are scary looking things as they can grow fairly big.. but i think they are harmless? Nevertheless you wouldnt want them around kids and prob a good idea to get a spray Spider I.D please 8Jan 13, 2012 12:45 pm Yeah I hate spiders, even looking at the pics freaks me out! Apparently they are venomous but not lethal.... Spider I.D please 10Feb 17, 2012 12:56 am Seriously, it's just a spider. Thanks Redman The phobias people have are absolutely baseless. All crap pumped into your brains by big companies selling things to kill them. The sprays most people use to kill them have been associated with mental development and disorders in children whose parents have had high exposures. Why hasn't anyone worked out that with millions of tonnes of pesticides we use, there's still loads of spiders. Hmmm A cob web broom should do the trick. Put a glass over the spider and slip a bit of card under it. Take it outside or over to that house down the road that plays their play station at full volume till 3am. Thats why we stopped spraying and alot of the time we have less creepycrawlies now. I reckon researching and fixing them on a case by case basis in a lowkey way works better than the people which get their houses regularly treated, they always seem to have something. Re: Spider I.D please 13Feb 18, 2012 10:14 am I catch the spiders in my house esp the huntsmen as they are a great sourse of a treat for my water dragons.lol Crunch Crunch.lol Forrester 43sq We have our keys (3/6/11) Now it's time to decorate (that's the fun part.lol) https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=37598 Re: Spider I.D please 15Feb 18, 2012 6:26 pm I like spiders. Always have. I used to catch them & take them outside so my parents couldn't spray them. Have you noticed how people really exaggerate the size of the huntsman they had a run in with? It was THIS BIG!!!! I like spiders even more now that I garden & know how useful they are. I particularly like the little jumping wolf spiders - very cute (I know most people in this forum will beg to differ). "Whoever says sunshine brings happiness has never danced in the rain!" Spider I.D please 16Feb 19, 2012 4:30 pm Hmmm I understand that for a lot of people, taking it outside would be a simple task, but not for someone that's terrified of them.. Although we didn't end up getting the house sprayed, as after a few weeks they were far and few between, I'll still defend anyone who chooses to do so. Insects terrify me, I remember as a child I woke up as a cockroach was crawling on my leg, i couldn't sleep in my bed for a week! And no, my parents weren't scared of insects I developed that phobia all on my own. Getting back to spiders, a few weeks ago i opened my front door to find 6 baby wolf spiders on the door step (have photographic proof). So in regards to health as was previously mentioned, I do think it's alot safer to get my house sprayed, than for my 10 month old son to find a spider in the corner of his room and decide to eat it, especially considering a lot of the spiders we get around here are danderous. I understand some people won't understand where I'm coming from and that's fine, each to their own. I personally can't stand that people take shovels to snakes they find in their yard, I love snakes, I have one that lives in my study (and a goanna in the garage), so if I found a snake in my yard I'd be stoked, but i do understand that this might be scary for some other people Re: Spider I.D please 17Feb 20, 2012 9:49 am Fu Manchu Seriously, it's just a spider. I would be an irresponsible mother if I believed it was safe to have spiders around my son, I know what he's like, I hate to think how many Christmas beetles he ate at Christmas time without me knowing!
