Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Jan 10, 2012 5:25 pm Hi, We are having a raised garden bed along our back fence, approx 8m long. We are having it 60cm high, just wondering what is the minimum width it should be. Our back yard is tiny, so I can't make it very big. It is a requirement by our council we have native screening plants along this fence, so I was thinking some Lilly Pillys (sorry Fu - alternative "easy care" suggestions most welcome!). I have seen some very nice psyllid resistant ones lately called "Winter Lights". Not sure what other plants at this stage. Green thumb I am not! We have a heap of weed mat, can we use that to line the sides of the garden bed or do we have to get some builders plastic? One side of the garden bed is brick the other side is treated pine sleepers. Sorry for the dumb questions! Thanks Re: Raised Garden bed questions 2Jan 11, 2012 9:58 am If you are only able to access one side of the garden bed, I would suggest no more than 80cm wide or it is too difficult to reach across. Or if you are a shortie like me, maybe consider even less (60cm wide). Unless you are doing a wicking bed, then don't worry about weedmat or builders plastic.
