I have been in my new house for 6 months now and I'm ready to redo my backyard.
I'm looking to replace a gravelled area (~25m sq.) with lawn. To get started I'd thought it be best to check what was actually under the gravel, once I started digging I found that the area was 30cm deep with 20cm of gravel/sand and 10cm of dirt, mixed into the dirt/sand is a lot of filler (bricks, spoons, bones etc.). The surprising thing was that at the bottom was paved brickwork (see below)!
I'd like to note that this was only one area of the backyard that I checked, I'm not sure if all areas are the same.
So my questions are:
- 1. Can I install lawn in this area without removing the bricks?
- 2. If so, how much of the material do I need to remove (all of it)?
If lawn isn't an option I could move to artificial lawn but I'm unsure of the prep. work which is required.
Hopefully I provided enough information!
