Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Jan 03, 2012 3:07 pm Hi all, Found these forums after a search on google! Just going to give a bit of a pre-amble, before I explain my problem. We have started working on the landscaping of our house. Just need some help on a minor problem. We have started work (and almost completed the side of the house). The plan is to lay Lilydale toppings and place pavers. The area is stepped because of the gradient of the land. Currently we have crushed rock layed down and some ugly looking TP sleepers (which we plan to staining or painting). The only tree we have planted is a "black-boy" (which you can just see in the photo). We all agree the area lacks some greenery and looks like a desert. So we decide to kill a few birds with one stone (add greenery, add shade to the area and a screen for privacy for both the neighbor and us.) So basically going to add some bamboo in a narrow garden bed. We pulled this off in our previous house very nicely. Problem But I want to create a garden bed, just stuck on what to do with the edging of the garden bed. On our previous bamboos we had something similar to this: http://www.redcloudbamboo.com.au/media/rokgallery/0/0a15308e-8fb2-424d-92c3-a677c612d990/bf425f1b-cd2d-4124-a440-6caa29b6bdc4.jpg The garden bed will be in the red area. We are after something similar, but cheaper and smaller (not as high). Tried using some 75mmx13mm merbau that we had to create the edging on the bed, but it looked terrible. Went to Bunnings, saw some Bessemer blocks, they looked like they might work but the holes in them would look terrible. I was thinking about using bricks and then 'rendering' them together to make it look like concrete edging. http://img850.imageshack.us/img850/4260 ... 204912.jpg Just wondering what your suggestions might be? What is commonly used for garden beds/edging. I have tried looking for common wood used for edging and securing the wood in place. I have never made a garden bed... Re: Need some help with garden bed 2Jan 03, 2012 3:17 pm We used permapine splits in our previous house for the retaining wall in the fernery and it looked great. Just need to remember to put some plastic behind the wood so the dirt doesn't come through ... good luck - we are in a similar position trying to work out gradients, shading, etc. For info on our build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=43093 Built the McLaren by Dechellis - slab down 22 Feb - handover 30 Aug 2011 - and gardens finished 9 Dec 2012!!
