Bit of a novice when it comes to plants, so sorry if this is a basic question.
We have some Murraya's along one fence that looks like its been there for many years as its thick at the base. Its great, works well to creat privacy and has devine smelling flowers, so we don't want to get rid of it at all.
However, its taking up a lot of space and the branches are quite thick, making it very hard to trim with the hedge trimmer. It's about 1.5 - 2 meters wide so needs to be reduced a bit.
Someone told me I could very harshly trim it right back to the the trunk and new shoots would soon grow back. New shoots that would be much thinner/finer and far easier to trim or shape as required.
Sounds plausible but does anyone know if this is right? I'd hate to damage it, or worse! If its correct is now a good time to do that kind of maintenance? Everything seems to be growing like mad so I'm thinking it would grow back quickly.
Thanks for any help.
