So I should just leave it and do nothing besides keep an eye on it? Re: What's up with our lawn? Yellow patches. 22Jan 10, 2012 9:02 pm I'd say keep an eye on it to see if it spreads. I suppose if it's not starting to come back in a couple of weeks, then top dressing would help. We didn't do it for ours. Just raked, cut out evening watering, and seasol. Re: What's up with our lawn? Yellow patches. 23Jan 15, 2012 4:51 pm Noticed that it seems to be spreading - so I have applied mancozeb today. Hopefully it will make a difference - how long did it take to notice an improvement for you? Re: What's up with our lawn? Yellow patches. 24Jan 16, 2012 10:16 am Yeah, ours spread too...I don't think we were quick enough with the mancozeb. The bright side is the original dead patches are about 80% new growth now and recovered (well, in the EZ, the buffalo looks worse). But now we have whole new dead sections to rake out and seasol. I hope this is the end of it soon. It's seems to be a continual loop of dead fungal patches, patch recovers, other patches turn yellow...aaargh. What's even more annoying is my neighbor who did no lawn prep and puts the lousy chemical fertilizers on his lawn all the time doesn't have this issue to contend with at all. Rrrr. Re: What's up with our lawn? Yellow patches. 25Jan 16, 2012 3:47 pm Young turf is more susceptible to disease it will get better with age. I suspect (me included) that there is a bit to much "love" been given to our lawns. Re: What's up with our lawn? I suspect (me included) that there is a bit to much "love" been given to our lawns. I loved my lawn into fungus... Seriously though, it is coming back nicely in the previously affected patches. As long as the fungus runs its course, we should get the upper hand. The EZ has fared a lot better than the buffalo, which looks pretty scruffy right now. See, I knew I should have put EZ in the front as well...rrr... Re: What's up with our lawn? Yellow patches. 27Jan 16, 2012 7:58 pm EZ has above and below ground runners so it can re grow even if the leaves are dead. Buffalo has only above ground runners (stolons) so whatever is dead above ground is dead proper and it can only creep in side ways to repair (it does that quicker than ez mind you). For what its worth my ez is still pretty ordinary in places, it was attacked badly, drives me bonkers if i had kikuyu it would have repaired over night either ways i have an older patch of ez which wasnt badly affected, just a tiny patch, yet the young ex all around it was butchered. Yellow patches. 29Jan 17, 2012 1:33 pm Looking good, I think mancozeb needs to be repeated every 7 days until it is eliminated... I haven't noticed a difference yet, but its only been a few days...at least it hasn't got worse since then Re: What's up with our lawn? Yellow patches. 30Jan 17, 2012 5:13 pm Every seven days hey...better get my husband on that. He did it last time... Re: What's up with our lawn? Yellow patches. 31Jan 17, 2012 8:07 pm That's what it says on the packaging for my mancozeb. I'm going to do it again next week and wait and see. Re: What's up with our lawn? He doesn't read packages (well, beyond skimming application rates) everything else is just extraneous info for him... Thanks for posting that and I'll remind him... Re: What's up with our lawn? The die off actually got worse and killed off much of the entire lawn. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ January 16th. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Yes, also needs a mow. The recovery has been a lot slower with the SB than the EZ. Both lawns had about 2/3 die off at one point, but the regrowth with the EZ was quicker. Re: What's up with our lawn? Yellow patches. 36Feb 12, 2012 11:39 am Yeah, I was pleasantly surprised at how quickly it bounced back. Makes me wish I'd put EZ out front as well. What's up with our lawn? Yellow patches. 37Feb 17, 2012 12:16 am It's all going to come down to what you used for soil. Many commonly sold soils meet often cause problems due to high nitrogen content from large volumes of poultry manure added. It takes time for things to settle down. With many new lawns there will be fluctuations in appearance. In sandy soils, Bentonite needs to be used at 3kg+/m2 and zeolite 3kg+/m2 In clay, add sand and compost. Make sure MycoApply is also used. http://www.maiaustralia.com.au/store/store.php?crn=205 Save yourself a fortune and use clumping cat litter instead of the rolls Royce expensive versions. Be smarter with your money. Top dress that area with zeolite at and a high carbon soil like "Naked Farmer Soil Activator" or an organically Certified compost that has a low odour and no chook poo or fresher manures in it. Also add some of http://www.maiaustralia.com.au/store/store.php?crn=205 Weak molasses solution as well as Seasol. Sent via Tapatalk Re: What's up with our lawn? Yellow patches. 38Feb 18, 2012 7:25 pm I got the soil from one of the recommended places in WA. So, I guess if they've been adding poultry manure, then we'd better give others a heads up. Bentonite and Zeolite were added as per the prep last year. Everything has been by the book. My husband thought it was a waste of his time that I insisted on it and then when the lawn started going south, he was saying, "Told you so." Especially when our neighbor did no prep whatsoever to his besides Dynamic Lifter and his Sir Walter looks heaps better than our Sapphire right now. We're still doing Seasol and molasses aftercare. Re: What's up with our lawn? Yellow patches. 39Feb 25, 2012 6:53 pm Who the hell recommended Mancozeb???? That stuff is seriously nasty! Why it is still allowed to be sold in Australia comes down to complacency. This is an opinion shared by many well know Horticulturists. For soil health to recover from that stuff is a horrid nightmare and will take a very long time. If any fungicide is required then it should only be Eco Garden Fungicide which is made from Potassium Bicarb. An additional application of zeolite would be highly recommended. I can't believe someone sold you that other stuff Re: What's up with our lawn? Yellow patches. 40Feb 26, 2012 10:10 am Um, Fu, you recommened in the link i posted earlier on in the thread, viewtopic.php?f=19&t=26792&start=0 You can also buy it off the shelf at any big shed retailer in Vic.
