I am currently building a new garden bed around some existing trees in my front yard.
Unfortunately our front yard was turfed with kikuyu which seems to be very invasive. Because of this I think I should be removing all possible trace of the grass under the new bed before placing new soil and mulch. is this the best approach, or should I just dig up the grass with a pick and mix in the new soil. Or could I even cover the area with newspaper and then place the new soil on top of that?
Any ideas would be good. Unfortunately a turf cutter is out of the question because of the shape of the bed, and the location of the existing trees in the new bed.
