Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Dec 04, 2011 12:15 am I'm sure there has probably been numerous threads on this topic, but I've been sifting through for around 20 minutes ad still can't find much. We are almost finished construction of our home on a half acre block. Our driveway will be 30+ metres in length and will be crushed granite with turf on one side, and mulch on the other. The driveway curves with a large bend, and we also want a curve along our front path I've found a few flexible garden edging products, but the price is a major issue. Has anyone used the flexible black plastic edging with success? I assume it would warp over time? We have also toyed with just galvanised steel lengths, but again, cost.. Can anyone recommend the best product for this type of setting? We want to eliminate the gravel getting into the turf, and the runners growing onto the driveway. Thanks in advance for your help! Thin timber edging can work well for a few years but it does rot away. I have used left over bricks to good effect but I suppose 30m either side may be too much for the bricks you have got left. A more informal idea if you have got lots of stones is too use those. The Harder You Try - the Luckier You Get ! Having seen the ridiculous cost of the plastic and galv edging at Bunnings and similar stores i was aghast!! for what is prob only a few dollars in raw plastic material, they charge the earth! Anyone know of a good supplier? My partner and i are looking to use it to seperate rock from mulch in a weird wavy feature in our front yard. Re: Need some garden edging advice please 5Dec 10, 2011 4:05 pm Nearly all of those gymicky dinky garden edging products are going to a waste of your time. The bricks, yeah will work and be practical. If you think a little bit of edging is going to keep your lawn out or a garden bedd you will be in for a shock. I'd be looking to brick because it allows for an edger to be able to do its thing and cut the runners deeper and therefore stay out of the beds. Rocks in garden beds is a massive fail for a healthy low care garden in the long term. Short term, yes. Long term no. Having pebbles right against lawn is also not a good idea for a practical reason. It would make me pretty nervous having a whipper snipper or lawn edger running against pebbles. You've have a window or an eye out. Re: Need some garden edging advice please 6Dec 10, 2011 4:17 pm Thanks Fu, its more about the driveway edging, so its less about keeping lawn out, and more about creating a visual divide and keeping the yellow crushed roadbase from working its way into the lawn... I spent about four hours the other night going through all your fantastic lawn topics and all the edging topics i could find, so I know where you stand on it. Around our trees we will be using an edger and mulch. Our veggie gardens are all raised, so no issue there. I think for the purposes we require, it will either be steel edging (dug down deep- hubby is a fitter by trade and everything is overkill, so it would be substantially buried and pegged) or bricks.
