Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Feb 12, 2008 11:46 pm There are so many choices of turf types, would love to hear others decisions and experiences.
We are laying approx 300m2 turf at a new house in Brisbane. Initially we had decided on Sir Walter but then after seeing some in the flesh we concluded that the broad leafs werent for us (personal choice). Next we looked at green couch but the thatchy appearance of the neighbours across the road had a subcontractor suggesting Legend Couch to us. Now he has come back suggesting Windsor couch. What experiences have others had with the various couch varieties, particularly in Brisbane climate. (It is this aspect that concerns us with the Windsor couch suggestions as it doesnt seem to be very common or popular in Brisbane). We have full sun in most of the lawn but had thought that some degree of shade tolerance would be an advantage as our new trees grow! Re: Turf in Brisbane 2Feb 13, 2008 7:56 pm Go no further than Empire Zoysia. This is an amazing turf and I have never seen anyone have any regrets in choosing it.
A deep green all year. Very slow growing so maintance costs are kept to a minimum. It has been said that it can need only 4 or 5 mows between spring and autumn however I have experienced more like every 3-4 weeks in summer. spraying for weeds is easier than with buffalo because you don't need to pick special herbicides for it. It has a slightly wider leaf than couch and narrower than buffalo. It is also tolerant of shade to a much greater extent than couch. I don't care what anyone says, No couch will grow well in anyamount of shade for a sustained length of time and remian healthy or weed free. It might do it for a year or two but sooner or later it will get problems. Couches are cheap to buy and expensive to maintain, they really reqire a heap more water to stay nice and also are prone to invading garden beds. Once in a garden bed they are really only able to be removed by pulling it out your self as most herbicides will harm the plants. I have only found various types of couches to be trivial in the differences between each other be it colour, drought tolerance, weeds, tolerance to wear/ traffic, and invasivness. Santa Anna couch does look a treat when used as a green at golf courses. Couch grasses are the worlds second most invasive weed problem. I don't know what is the first but I do know that it is the second check some other threads here too They using concrete or timber sleepers? Timber or steel uprights? Any drainage behind sleeper? 3 5900 Hello Josh, This is Irving from PRIMA, we are a manufacturer of the staircase, railings, kitchen cabinets, windows, doors from China.
