Within Australia there are a number of open garden schemes. At this time of the year here in WA there is the Open Garden Scheme which tends to focus on city gardens and larger gardens in bigger regional areas and there is a smaller Country Gardens scheme which is an initiative of some of the smaller regional towns to entice people to visit.

Yesterday DH and I went to visit the home of some friends W & P who had their garden open for the Country Garden Scheme.
Most of the boundary plantings are 10 years old but the rest of their garden is around 3 years old.
I only had my iphone with me but took photos of a few things that appealed. Including their leftover brick raised veggie beds which I have mentioned on here before. I would love to go back to take more photo's. Given that they are only a few streets from us many of the plants that are successful in their garden will do well in ours as we have the same type of ground. W is itching to get in and have a prune but was advised to wait until after this weekend.
Soil is very rocky with some clay. It's 1/2 an acre. There is no retic as the water pressure is too low so it is a totally hand watered garden. A mix of native and non native plants with many waterwise plants which suit the region.
They have many little nooks and paths in their garden which wind around the house and yard. Paths are a mixture of paving, bitumen( blue metal road base), gravel and and wood chips. Most of the garden is well mulched.
