Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Nov 05, 2011 5:38 pm Hi Guys I am trying to buy a Lawn Mover and need some help to decide what to buy: (a) Should I buy just a Lawn Mover or a Mulcher Lawn Mower? What are the differences and which is better? (b) (1) I am not interested in a Petrol Lawn Mover as they are heavier and nosier. (2) Interested in buying a Mains-Powered model. User manual indicates that: “25m is as far as you can go with a standard domestic 10 amp extension lead if you need to go further than that you need to use a 15 amp extension lead with 10 amp plugs on it”. Could I plug 15 amp extension lead into normal house electricity (220v) without any problems? Will I be able to maintain same performance as a petrol one if I do this? (3) Also thinking about having a Cordless (Battery-Powered) model and happy to buy couple of backup batteries. Is this similar to Petrol one in performance? NOTE: (a) My front and back yards are in a slope (45 angle cut) and it is more than 25m away from power points. (b) My lawns are bit tough at this stage. In future I will get Couch or Buffalo lawn. IMO Electric mowers work fine, in the UK the Flymo is used domestically and commercially. The Flymo hover mower is particularly good for slopes... I think it will be fine but in any case, I would just try it, if it is affected by a voltage drop due to the distance you can sort that out when it happens... http://www.flymo.com.au/node2415.aspx?nid=168107 Ed "ECOECO" At 'EcoEco', we design windows, we design the best windows, we do it for you, so that when you’re happy we are happy. My block is 725 sqm with a 325 sqm house, so there is a bit more than half of the total area to mow + plus nature strip and this mower will mow that area twice on one charge. I wasn't 100% sure if they were as good as I had hoped, but it has actually exceeded my expectations and I would buy another one in a heartbeat. In saying that, they do have limitations in that you need to cut the grass on a regular basis because if it's tall and clumpy this mower has some difficulty cutting through as it doesn't have the capacity of a petrol motor. I had a little problem not long after buying it, but only because it was sold with an underrated fuse and once a higher rated fuse was fitted there have been no further problems. It has a catcher but I prefer not to catch the grass (and weeds) instead I prop the rear flap open a small amount so the clippings discharge out the back more easily. You will find a rechargeable mower will be easier to use on a slope because it's not as heavy as a petrol mower. Stopping and starting are as easy as flicking a switch!!! A family member got a mower the same as mine and has been equally impressed and only last week his neighbour was asking about the mower because it was so quiet!! Recharging is as simple as plugging the power adaptor directly into the mower and not have to remove the battery, which is my preferred option...or removing the battery and taking it to a power point, I park the mower close to a powerpoint in the garage and it's charged by next morning. You could probably buy another battery but I would suggest trying one battery as I think you will be surprised how long it will last. The mower I bought was through eBay as mower shops scoffed when I mentioned 'rechargeable' but I soon found that with the price they were charging I could buy SIX rechargeables. Hope that helps?
