Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Oct 16, 2011 4:23 pm Hi, I have been reading alot on Homeone Landscaping & Garden forum and have learnt quite a bit about 'feeding the soil'. Just want to say a big thank you to Fu who devotes alot of time to share his knowledge on this forum. You have made mine and I am sure alot of other people's life so much easier. Thank you. Re: Thank you Fu!!!! 2Oct 16, 2011 5:34 pm Yeah, can I chime in too? We did all of his prep and although we weren't super diligent with the aftercare, we did do the seasol, molasses etc. when we remembered (like every two weeks or so). I also put seamungus and shades of green down during the winter. So, now spring is here and I've noticed a couple of things... First, after an initial annoying crop of winter weeds to contend with, I don't have as many weeds popping up as my neighbors do in theirs. They've done the conventional prep, dynamic lifter, chemical fertilizers, weed n feed, and their lawns tend to have more weeds after the initial herbicide wears off and their grass just looks patchier. There are brand new couch lawns up the road that went in the same time as mine that are nothing but weeds at this point. Second, feeding the soil really does seem to make for a more weed resistant lawn. I thought that was waaaay out there at first, but I can see it's true. My buffalo (sapphire) has less weeds in it than my neighbor's SWB. And the Zoysia beats both of them hands down. I go out and pick weedlings off the top of the Zoysia and the mat is so thick that the weeds can't even take root. So, thanks Fu. Honestly, if I hadn't stumbled onto this forum I'd probably have just put the turf down on the plain old sandy soil, thrown a lot of chemical fertilizers and herbicides on it and then wondered why it wasn't performing very well.
