I really don't know-the instructions say 'don't be alarmed'. I might just try the milk and bread thing myself.

Use a rotation system, firstly put your scraps in bokashi, and then eventually put the bokashi contents in the worm farm once it's fermented a bit. If you thought worms go nuts on chopped up food, wait until you see them have a crack at fermented food scraps from bokashi. Thnaks MilkMan Dont know much about bokashi will be doing some info hunt soon. MiLK_MaN Here's a fact many might not know ... worm juice causes chillies to become hotter! The microscopic insect bodies found in worm juice seem to cause chillies to produce more capsaicin as a defence mechanism great, being an indian dont mind hot chilli's havenot planed chillies yet but will be giving it a try very soon. If you ever want to try some authentic Indian chillies known as Bhut Jolokia, they come for a long drive up to northern Melbourne and you can pick some fresh ones from my garden. They will be ready by about February. All chillies will come with a disclaimer.... you need an emergency glass of milk/yoghurt on standby when you consume the chillies because they are dangerously hot. I will keep that in mind Milkman next time i am driving noth& dont worry about the disclamier i can take it. Read through your thread about eddible front yard, some great work there ,inspired by that i will be planting some chillies soon. We dont mind looking at your wormfarm & bokashi setup too Re: More than just worms..... 45Dec 12, 2011 10:50 am You really enjoy a bokashi + worm farm combination. I have a temp gauge in my worm farm in the garage that was measuring about 19C last week. Then I added grass clippings, rabbit manure and bokashi that had been in my compost tumbler for a few weeks to the worm farm, and now the temp has shot up to about 25C due to the significantly increased worm activity in the area. Worms work best with organic material that has started to decompose. You'll notice that if you put fresh scraps in a worm farm, it takes a few weeks for them to start to process them, where as they will go absolutely nuts over the bokashi as it's already started to break down thanks to the microbes in the EM mix. I usually add a small bit of garden lime to stuff this mix of stuff from the compost tumbler because it goes a little acidic. Re: More than just worms..... 46Dec 13, 2011 1:13 pm folks do a search on worms and worm farms. I have already read some urban myths in this thread and some not so accurate information. For those in Sydney, go and do a few workshops at Kimbriki ecohouse. Dr Peter Rutherford is one of Australia's leading experts on what is truth and what is gardener myth with worm farms. Re: More than just worms..... 47Dec 13, 2011 1:15 pm In particular there is a heap of info on worms in the veggie thread with links. I'd love to add far far more but my time is limited More than just worms..... 48Apr 09, 2012 9:44 pm HappyCamper_au Have just spent the last few minutes checking out my worm farms...both were from Freecycle and totally neglected, it appears they were a good idea at the time then the people lost interest, for whatever reason. Anyway, over a couple of months they are now producing castings and worm tea with no smell and what seem to be, lots of happy worms doing their thing!! Just checked on eBay and there are quite a few 'used' worm farms there if anyone wants a bargain...of course you would still have to buy worms although one seller was including worms as well but can't list them due to eBay's live animal policy. Worms have feelings too, you know!!! LOL Haha... They sure do! Re: More than just worms..... 49Jan 05, 2013 5:29 pm Reviving this thread. . . I just bought my first worm-farm. The Worm Cafe (like a few others here, so it seems). I've put mine in the garage. . . I see that everyone elae put theirs outside. . . Is the garage a bad idea? I am building in claymore NSW and this is shown in the building envelope plan. … 0 4986 |
