jhajjp....you can make your own worm farm, it doesn't have to a commercial one. Here's a link with instructions...

Then you would need to buy composting worms, or post a wanted ad in your local Freecycle (or similar) asking if someone has an excess of worms to give away.
Both of my worm farms came from Freecycle and included worms, the second one had been totally neglected and had heaps of worms along with chicken bones, plastic and other stuff that shouldn't be fed to them. Of course, with chicken bones (and probably other meat) it was really smelly but since cleaning out all the junk it's back to being a good worm farm now.
