I am in a relatively new home 3 years young and my builder as part of a house and land package laid kiykuyu turf and only putting a thin underlay of soil mix on top of clay surface.
Now we want to pull it up and lay a soft leaf buffalo turf .... Not sure whether to use sir Walter soft leaf buffalo or kings pride buffalo. We do have a two story on one side of us which will shade that area a lot in the late afternoon. We are wanting a hardy grass as we have a dog and want it to be green all year round.....
So my friend is coming in a couple of weeks to pull up my existing turf with a bobcat and level it out...... He said I wouldn't need to rotary hoe it.
I have read the landscaping forum from fumanchu and he does say to rotary hoe while throwing down some gypsum mix to break up the clay.
Should we still rotary hoe....and throw gypsum down?.
I will still be buying turf underlay soil mix and throwing down some turf starter before laying new turf. Just if I rotary hoe I know I will have to compact it so there's no air pockets, just seems like so much more work!!
But they do say it's the preperation you do will get better results in the end.
And to make sure my kikuyu turf is gone forever... I leave it for two weeks minimum and was going to spray it twice with roundup during that
time. But is there anything I am missing..?
