The plumber guy came in and did his bit, then we had the electrician come in a week later. The pool lights are in and look fab. We have one in the pool and one on the waterfall. We can set them to change colour and they look awesome. I will post some pics. The concrete was meant to be done on wednesday, but they only just got here yesterday. Hubby will start laying the sandstone tiles today. The pool company is now waiting for us to install the pool fencing before they do the pebblecrete coating and fill the pool. Our glass fencing couldn't go in until the concrete and sandstone was done. We have timber fencing on the 2 sides, which is almost finished and my mission this weekend is to stain them. We have been to the markets the last 2 weekends and bought plants. So cheap!! I got a whole ute load of majestic palms, giant bird of paradise, cycads, mondo grass (black and mini) among others for $190. I went back last weekend for more lol. For those in Brisbane and the Gold Coast - check out the Rocklea markets on a sunday morning. Once the fences are stained, I can put some plants int he ground. I have reserved an area for a waterfeature and a general wet area with stones where I can grow water plants. BUT... the electrician has put the electric cable from the meter box right through the middle thinking it was all going to be concreted (hubby told him is wasn't). We have managed to bury the cable and put some concrete over it. Once the pond liner goes over it, it should be fine. I can't wait to do that area We have almost finished the front - I will take pics later on today. I just have a few more stones to put down and some bark on the retaining wall garden. Re: Tamara1975 - Landscaping - a work in progress :) 22Nov 05, 2011 7:48 am Here are some pics of the pool lights. I will take more pics today of the pool area and the front yard. We are going to build a big bali hut in the pool area with a bar etc, but don't have the money for it at this stage. We will put grass and shade cloth up for now and build the bali hut later. We put a bali hut in our last house. I just love them, they are so Queensland. Would def put another one in one day when we have spare cash. The markets are great to buy cheap plants... They have several colours and it is a smooth transition through them. Re: Tamara1975 - Landscaping - a work in progress :) 27Nov 09, 2011 5:15 am miss_petepie wow those lights are crazy! they give out such vibrant colours Yeah they are very vibrant. I am so looking forward to just laxing out in the pool Re: Tamara1975 - Landscaping - a work in progress :) 28Nov 09, 2011 5:21 am The sandstone tiling has started. We have had trouble with the sandstone. We bought extra off the company that supplied our coping for the pool. What we got looks like seconds. There are marks on alot of them, some are mouldy, broken, have what looks like bat poo on them and some of them, the natural pattern looks awful. We contacted the supplier and he said they just need a clean. We have cleaned and water blasted them all and about 1/3 we are unable to use. I am going to contact the supplier and tell them we want them swapped. Hubby started laying them yesterday and we discovered they are all different thicknesses and someare different to the pool coping by 10mm. Not too happy. Re: Tamara1975 - Landscaping - a work in progress :) 29Nov 17, 2011 6:25 am Well, the fencing is certified, so the pebblecrete is going on the pool tomorrow!! They will acid wash on saturday then we can fill it!! I am planning on getting some plants in the ground in the pool area over the weekend Tamara1975 - Landscaping - a work in progress :) 30Nov 17, 2011 7:59 am Make sure you use organic compost and zeolite in the soil before planting. Use a rough course mulch like tree prunings, they won't make a mess in the pool. Re: Tamara1975 - Landscaping - a work in progress :) 31Nov 17, 2011 8:08 am Woo hoo ... can't wait to see it ... Use a rough course mulch like tree prunings, they won't make a mess in the pool. Thanks for the advice I was just going to have a look at what I need to do with the soil. I don't want to just go ahead and hope for the best. I want a yard that has the "wow factor" Re: Tamara1975 - Landscaping - a work in progress :) 33Nov 18, 2011 8:52 pm Updated pics. My red pots in the front yard. There is a Bali shop near us having a closing down sale and I spotted these sitting out the back with the paint peeling off them. I got them for $25 each. A bit of sanding and a lick of paint and they turned out great Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ The pool with the sandstone and fencing finished and the pebblecrete done. For now, we will put in some grass, shade sails and I am thinking of buying hammocks as christmas pressies. It will do until we have some $$. Re: Tamara1975 - Landscaping - a work in progress :) 35Nov 18, 2011 9:00 pm I just realised I don't have a pic of the front yard finished. Will take apic tomorrow. Tamara1975 - Landscaping - a work in progress :) 36Nov 18, 2011 9:08 pm Make sure a good 1/3 of those pots are filled with gravel as a ballast. Those cycads will get big and top heavy. They will be prone to falling in high winds in time to come. Tamara1975 - Landscaping - a work in progress :) 37Nov 18, 2011 9:10 pm Some of those plants in the gravel will struggle. Re: Tamara1975 - Landscaping - a work in progress :) 38Nov 18, 2011 9:31 pm The pots are buried and surrounded in stones up to about 300ml. I might have to take your advice and put some stones inside them. I didn't think of that lol. The plants out the front are planted in soil and there is just a thin layer of stones around them. I am going to move some around, because I can see a couple of them are starting to struggle from the hot sun, even though they only get the morning sun. Re: Tamara1975 - Landscaping - a work in progress :) 39Nov 19, 2011 10:07 am Oh wow, your pool area looks fantastic. We would have loved to have glass fencing, just not any money left in the kitty for that. Its coming along nicely Re: Tamara1975 - Landscaping - a work in progress :) 40Nov 19, 2011 10:14 am We managed to get it cheap on ebay. A place called the bathroom company.
