Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design Re: Awful smell from neighbours dogs 21Jan 06, 2013 11:44 am Hi...I live in a suburban area with smaller block so I understand what you're going through. My neighbour has 3 dogs, couple months ago they built outdoor dog toilet next to our side fence (which 2 m away from our kitchen and dining area) and we notice terrible dog smell ever since. Tried to plant lavender in the hanging pots along side the fence, not working coz they are not always flowering. One month after that, we planted gardenias to help repel the odours, not working neither. Recently we planted Chinese Star Jasmine, hopefully it's working. However it's summer time, means the dog odour will be stronger because of the heat. We also burn scented candle whenever we go outside to enjoy our backyard and indoor during windy hot days. We did all that because we don't wanna complaint to our neighbour anymore. FYI, in the past we had talk to them about the way they park their big van in our nature strip. They stop parking there for a week and then doing it again up to the point we couldnt tolerate it anymore. So we put pot plants in our nature strip to stop them parking there (we know it's againts the law but it's a desperate action to stop them parking there without constant complain). We also re-direct their water drainage from their retaining walls to the nature strip because they dumped their water into our front yard, make it soggy and no plant will survive there because it's too wet. My point is some people are selfish and disregard other's rights to enjoy their own property. Neighbour's dispute is the worst scenario in this kind of situation. Do the best you could do to deter the smell without telling your neighbour to prevent any dispute. Good luck it depends on the natural ground level, if they excavated their boundary wall needed to be built as a retaining wall. If you filled, which sounds like the case then you… 1 5035 The only thing to add to these comments is that where possible it's always good to try and work with people than just say "no" because you can.
