Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Sep 22, 2011 9:38 am Ive been doing a bit of research in regards to how close I should/shouldn't plant some Cordyline's to the house. I have a garden bed directly next to the slab approx 1.1m wide and Im looking at planting the following plants: Liriope/Dianella/Kalanchoe/Agave/Cordyline - will I have any trouble with these close to the house slab? But my main concern is the Cordyline as I know they can grow quite big. I found this on a website: How close to the house should I plant Cordyline australis? Question I'm in the process of landscaping and need to know if Cordyline australis will cope with shade under the eaves of my house. Answer Cordyline australis will cope with some shade but grows to its full potential if planted in full sun. Care should be taken not to plant too close to your house as Cordyline australis can grow into very large trees and could cause structural damage. Will 1.1m be wide enough or would I be flirting with danger with damaging the house foundations. etc? Finally - this is kind of what we are after so if anyone can nominate the plants in the photos, would be greatly appreciated. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Thanks. Re: Codyline close to house? 2Sep 22, 2011 4:22 pm I have 4 of Cordyline australis in my front yard 300 away from from wall. and i was concered too. Fu manchu's answer for my concern was "Cordyline australis. They will be fine. Not a large root system by any means and tends to be very fibrous, so no danger."
