Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Sep 18, 2011 12:07 pm Hi, We have been living in our house for about a year now and concentrating on the inside renovation, however the retaining wall out the front of the property is starting to be quite concerning, but we have no idea how to go about fixing it. We had considered putting in an extra post (after digging out the soil behind it, and pushing the timber back), but there is concrete all the way to where the bricks end which makes that rather tricky. Any ideas would be much appreciated! The timber section that has pushed out does not appear to be attached to the blocks and it's not surprising it is in the process of failing. The block wall also appears to be on the move so that leads me to thinking that there is either no drainage or very poor drainage behind the wall. I would take the entire section out including the bottom course of blocks. To save you digging up all of the concrete footing I would leave it in place but you will have to break through it at either end for 2 new posts. (A 4 hour hire of a small jack hammer should do the job) If the 2 long timbers pictured are not rotted out you should be able to save and re-use them. Source some more of the same material to make up the rest of the wall and 2 posts. Don't forget some ag pipe and some drainage gravel behind the wall at the base. Hope this helps. Thank you again Simeon.. I will call my certifier for that.
