Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Sep 12, 2011 11:04 am Hello Guys, I had Sir Walter laid in my backyards probably around 3-4 months ago now. I have followed all of Fu's recommendation for the turf preparation. During the weekend, I have noticed that some patches have quite a noticeable yellow colour. For some reason, I have a strong suspicion that it is not normal. So I did a bit of research on the net here and there about the possible cause. After reading a few articles, I have decided to check the pH of the soil. Using one of those pH testing kits, I grabbed a sample of soil and it appears the soil looks quite alkaline. mmmmm....scratching my head what could have caused this?? The only thing that I am thinking is the regular application of Powerfeed and Seasol to the grass might have caused this. :-l I read that only on the Powerfeed bottle that it contains quite a bit of nitrogen and I think it might have triggered this to happen. I am so sad to see my lawn in that state as I was giving it so much TLC since it has been laid. Can anyone tell me what could be the cause and how could I fix it to bring it back to that lush green colour?? (Sorry for not posting a photo yet but I will try to do so asap) Re: Sir Walter Grass Problem - Please Help Me :'( 3Sep 12, 2011 11:18 am could be due to the colder nights, it usally happens and will get better as the lawn matures mine went a little yellow over its first winter but noticed in the last 2 weeks its coming back nice and green Harrisdale backyard finally done! Re: Sir Walter Grass Problem - Please Help Me :'( 5Sep 13, 2011 8:03 am It wont be the powerfeed or seasol they both wont alter ph upwards dramatically. Do you have a dog or possums peeing on the lawn? Either way it looks minor and once it gets going in the next month it should be fine. Yeah that's what I was hoping/thinking too. It was so green and healthy a couple of weeks earlier. miss_petepie could be due to the colder nights, it usally happens and will get better as the lawn matures mine went a little yellow over its first winter but noticed in the last 2 weeks its coming back nice and green But we had way colder nights earlier and it was fine back then. What type of lawn have you got? BeatrixKiddo It wont be the powerfeed or seasol they both wont alter ph upwards dramatically. Do you have a dog or possums peeing on the lawn? Either way it looks minor and once it gets going in the next month it should be fine. I don't have any pets. So you're saying not too worry about it and it will be fine? Do you think I should add something to bring the pH down? Re: Sir Walter Grass Problem - Please Help Me :'( 7Sep 13, 2011 12:31 pm If the rest of the lawn is fine then obviously PH isn't the issue so really altering it is not going to do much. By applying powerfeed and composts etc you will slowly bring the ph to a more neutral reading. More importantly the turf is still young and hasn't had a chance to really establish through a growing season. So really, if it was my lawn, and it was still there in december, i would look to treating it then. IMO it looks just looks like normal turf thats been laid in winter. You can still see the rolls/lines so its a long way from being established. Re: Sir Walter Grass Problem - Please Help Me :'( 8Sep 13, 2011 1:15 pm Thanks for your input Beatrix. I will leave it as it is and will monitor the changes. We will see what happens. Re: Sir Walter Grass Problem - Please Help Me :'( 9Sep 13, 2011 10:33 pm we have sir walter also and its coming good now that we have warmer days Harrisdale backyard finally done! Re: Sir Walter Grass Problem - Please Help Me :'( 10Sep 14, 2011 9:31 am Hopefully I will get there too...lol Re: Sir Walter Grass Problem - Please Help Me :'( 11Sep 14, 2011 10:45 pm Absolutely fine. That is excellent considering your lawn likes heat and its very chilly right now. Totally normal for the edges to brown off even in summer. You have done well Now all you need to be concerned with is which drink to have? Beer or wine? Coffee of tea?
