Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Sep 04, 2011 8:53 pm Hi there im really hoping someone can help with our new lawn any help appreciated!! Site Prep Excavated gravel laid 3-4 inches of organic soil and sandly loan (ran out of organic soil) over clay?? (i think) soil Recommended sir launcher and starter fertiliser used Levelled and raked kikuyu laid rolled heavily watered for first fortnight (twice daily) and have cut back to once every 2 days grass laid 4 weeks ago some turf rolls appeared affected by frost and we had hoped they would be ok The problem see pictures some areas looking good others not growing well at all does not seem to be due to soil as there are areas in the organic soil also struggling and areas in the sandy loam growing great. Some areas have not rooted at all after 4 weeks. We have a dog that has scratched a few 10 cm patched maybe 3 or 4 but again this doesnt seem to be the problem. She keeps of the lawn most of the time. Wehave topdressed this area and im thinkingof seeding the bare spots is this the right thing to do?? The areas where the sod seemed frost affected look like there dying off. I have cut back the watering because I thought I may have been watering too much. The grass appears dry on top but underneath it is nice and moist. I have emailed the company about the frost affected rolls and they are very reputable so Im hoping they will get back to me. I am thinking of getting a soil testing kit and seasol and powerfeed tomorrow. What else do you think I should be looking at and do you think this grass can be saved?? or should we just look at replacing the dead rolls. http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/62/086fo.jpg/ http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/838/085oh.jpg/ http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/35/081ph.jpg/ http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/534/082oi.jpg/ http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/42/078xu.jpg/ http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/508/077bj.jpg/ http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/585/075oi.jpg/ THANKS!! Re: Help new lawn not looking good 3Sep 05, 2011 8:26 am So you had Kikuyu laid? That stuff grows everywhere, I really would be too concerned about it. And the facts that winter only just finished means it might still be sleeping. Kikuyu is pretty hard to kill. It be everywhere you don't want it as well. Help new lawn not looking good 4Sep 05, 2011 5:27 pm Pretty common after common industry advice. That's why I have done the turf laying thread. the leaves that are now underground go yellow, the tips that poke through photosynthesise and have chlorophyll, same reason they grow rhubarb in the dark. 5 4860 Thanks for your reply! All valid points and I agree with you on many of them. I am in QLD, any recommendations on a construction lawyer would be helpful 3 2637 Hi team, Im looking for a second hand sd4b monitor preferably white. 0 8923 |
