Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Jan 30, 2008 2:25 pm Hi Everyone
I've just joined and still making my way through the posts. Our current project is the landscaping of our pool area. We have a back fence and a side fence to screen. They are relatively private, but just need something nice and soft/leafy to screen the fence and look great. We are in full sun. I'm thinking Magnolia Little Gems. But I know they are notorious slow growers. Does anyone have any for and against for these? Or can you recommend some alternatives? Looking for evergreen, with minimal flowers etc (DH not keen on pool cleaning!) Thanks! Re: Pool Landscape ideas 2Jan 30, 2008 11:43 pm Kay Parris is another small Magnolia to keep an eye out for! the little gem is a cracker but not near a pool. to risky.
Look at Hibscus tileaceous rubra as an option. big glossy leaves, lots of colour, soft root system, doesn't drop flowers like hawaian hibiscus do, has a constantly changing colour in shades of green through to red and burgundy. Vibernum Emerald lustre is a ripper too. Big glossey green leaves, fragrant flowers, not too messy. grows fast. Michellia lady of the night. A port wine magnolia that will grow to about 3 or 4m but loves to be hedged smaller. amazing flowers that are not too messey. Also Michellia Coco or Figo are great options. Murraya paniculata or mock orange or mock orange blossom or orange jessemine. This one is a corker too. nice and green. lush look to it that loves to be clipped. sweet scented flowers through the summer. The bees don't seem to flock to the flowers from what I have seen so that is why I have mentioned it. Not very messey at all. all are better options than little gem etc. these small magnolias are used in many poolside landscapes by people who walk away from the job leaving the pool owner a headache in years to come. but look how good it looks now and remember to prepare the soil before planting Landscape Design Parramatta We have been doing a large amount of landscape design work in Sydney… 0 3 Need advice on the backyard plan above. Should I excavate and cut all of the dirt to level with the house slab or semi-excavate as per photo above? Both left and right… 0 24862 Thanks very much! And would the landscaper/contractor generally involve the engineer or is that something the client would do? Thanks for your help 2 10022 |
