Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Aug 14, 2011 9:14 am We are about to commence building a house with a slope from left to right with a gradient of about 600m There is about 6 metres at the back of our house but 3 of those contain an easement. We are not allowed to build up or cut in more than 200m, so are left with this slope. We were intending to level the whole block with a cut and fill but the easement will prevent this. I am looking for any ideas or information on how to landscape this easement so that it does not look so sloping. Thanks Re: How do we landscape a sloping block 2Aug 14, 2011 4:55 pm How about doing a couple smaller cuts and doing some steps instead of one big cut. It won't hide the slope as such and will be more work but it could turn what appears to be a negative into a real focal point of your garden. Re: How do we landscape a sloping block 3Aug 14, 2011 5:39 pm I think its a god send. I hate doing flat gardens, too boring. A slight slope is a far more realistic setup for a landscape. Section it with cut ins done from big boulders brought in or smaller dry rock walls. Create multiple spaces and wide path ways through. You could do a few terraces but that rarely works as a successful landscape. My situation: I m about to commence building, slope from left to right - 600mm fall and 6 metres at the back with 3 metres easement. This will be a good thread for me to subscribe and exchange ideas . And I know Fu is a champ with landscaping, so will be worth getting his inputs. Good luck ! Re: How do we landscape a sloping block 5Aug 14, 2011 11:27 pm I hope you guys understand that sometimes you ask questions that involve very detailed answers. Often I am not able to respond in any detail due to time constraints but will always try to offer a general guide of where to look and how to start taking pencil to paper. This is something hard to write about without doing a basic design to illustrate the potential you have there. That is something I'm a little apprehensive about doing for nothing as they can take a little while. Many different materials can be used (Rocks, sleeps, old red bricks ..........) You could include a small stream using the fall of land to great effect. You have a 'golden opportunity', not a 'problem'. Give Jonathan a call. Tell him you know me. He is in my opinion the best surveyor I have ever worked with.
