Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Aug 07, 2011 8:28 pm Hi, Just need some advice......I have had a dry rock retaining wall designed and on the design it has the geotextile fabric behind the rocks with the gravel behind that????? The guy doing the retaining wall has laid the first course of rocks and when we got there said that he had never done a retaining wall like this and that the geotextile should be against the dirt with the gravel in front. Just wondering which way is right and if the design is wrong what happens now..... as it will be more time and $$$ to pull it out and start over ***Building coral HERON (modified) in the beautiful NSW far north coast*** H1 Thread - https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=48902 Re: Help! retaining Wall question 2Aug 08, 2011 1:30 pm The fabric should be between the dirt and the gravel. It is specifically there to keep the dirt out of the gravel so that the gravel remains a free-flowing mefium for water to get through to your ag-line Re: Help! retaining Wall question 3Aug 08, 2011 2:30 pm joannapaulp The fabric should be between the dirt and the gravel. Dirt - Fabric - Gravel - Wall Re: Help! retaining Wall question 4Aug 08, 2011 7:48 pm thanks guys..... just what we thought although i tool a trip to see the guys who designed the wall after he didn't return my phone calls and he still maintains they design all there walls like this and it's to keep the gravel from washing through the rocks....not happy. The guy building the retaining wall has gone from doing the first row that way to now doing it the right way, he thinks I should get money back from the engineers as he reckons it took them longer than it should have to do it there way plus the design is wrong.....what do you think I should do????? ***Building coral HERON (modified) in the beautiful NSW far north coast*** H1 Thread - https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=48902 Re: Help! retaining Wall question 5Aug 08, 2011 8:50 pm learn from the experience and move on. Do a google search for Concrib type wall construction. They are open style retailing wall that uses loose aggregate and pre-cast concrete which is a similar design to your rock wall. Gravel wash out doesn't seem to be a problem with concrib walls. I would still go with the order of Dirt - fabric - gravel - wall. Hope this helps. Thank you again Simeon.. I will call my certifier for that. Have a good day 4 5193 Thanks for your reply! All valid points and I agree with you on many of them. I am in QLD, any recommendations on a construction lawyer would be helpful 3 2645 Thanks for the insights, that makes perfect sense, and yeah, I will be leaning on the experience of the excavator operator entirely. 6 16149 |
