Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Jan 25, 2008 9:40 am I have a tight budget and I am building a deck 3m x 7m. What wood would be the best to use and where can I get it the cheapest? I have looked at Merbu and Pine so far and don't really like pine and find getting set lengths of Merbu is difficult. Also what is the best system to lay it? I was told of a disk method so there are no screws - is this any good?.... I live in Melbourne's inner west. Dusty Re: Decking Wood 2Jan 25, 2008 10:43 am Hi Dusty.
The screwless system requires a biscuit cutter to cut a slot for the 'circular' disk, which is nailed. NOt sure of the cost or the durability to be honest. As for the lengths, it does depend on which wood you used. I see that Baunnings at Hoppers now have 140mm wide lengths for about $8 per lineal metre, and they had a good size pack of long lengths. You wont get a lot og long lengths unless you buy from multiple suppliers, as thye get picky and wont let you break packs up for the long lengths. Adrian B Re: Decking Wood 3Jan 25, 2008 6:44 pm Hardwood decking above 2.7m is only available in random lengths.
The problem with taking long lengths out out of a random pack is it leaves half a pack of shorter lengths of which you have paid a higher price for. (short length packs are usually a bit cheaper) If you looking after a tight budget - have a look a 65x19 mixed aussie hardwood decking which you can get for about $2.40/metre. In the pine, have a look at 'LOSP' treated decking - its clear in colour as apposed to the horrible olive-green stuff. Hi, as per the subject. Does anyone have any recommendations for the best value decking oil (Bunning is close to where I live) for a treated pine deck? Thanks 0 10970 We are tossing up between a Jarrahdale radiant wood fire (the Pioneer) and a convection wood fire (Innovator or Countryman) but cannot decide on which type of wood fire is… 0 5247 yeah i couldnt picture it issue either, but i could clearly picture what they were doing wrong haha 2 5289 |
