The back of our house is elevated on poles and I'm looking at cost effective ways to enclose the area underneath to hide the sewer/drainage pipes, HWS, plumbing etc. Ideally I would like timber slats, but the cost ($3000+ in the slats alone) and oiling/staining upkeep is a bit of a worry, so I'm trying to think of other ideas.
One that has come to mind is to string wire or mesh between the posts and start a climber to fill it in. But I would like to keep the plants in a pot as the area under the house is all covered in smooth river rock with weed matting underneath.
If the area between the posts is about 2.5m wide and 3m tall, would 1 plant (most likely star jasmin or bleeding heart) be enough to eventually cover this whole area? Or would multiple plants be required? How big of a pot would I need to support a climber covering that sort of area? Lastly, what sort of spacing could I get away with between each horizontal wire? Is 300mm too wide for them to span?
