Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Jul 21, 2011 1:04 pm Hi all, our house is currently under construction but we can't decide what to do regarding landscaping. Our block slopes front to back and will need some retaining. We are a young family with 3 children aged between 3 months and 7 years so our yard needs to be practical and suitable for kids, but I still want it to look nice. We were thinking of doing some retaining ourselves, as hubby is fairly handy, although I'd still like to get some quotes. I was thinking of having toppings (the blue stuff) and some plants down the left side, this will also an area for our dog, and a garden along the back fence line, but that's the extent of my ideas so far. Would love some advice of where to retain (possibly where the fill ends off the back? But will that make it feel like the yard is cut in half?). And any thoughts in general anyone might have. We don't have a huge budget for landscaping so it will need to be done fairly cheaply (and possibly added to later). Creating an outdoor room to draw the focus out.... You could have a sandpit with tunnels etc underneath this as a play area for the kids...... On the lower level having wide grass pathways that circulate around bamboo'd tropical garden beds which hide maybe a sunken trampoline in one corner then swings & slide set up in the other? Kind of create a hidden garden/play ground for the kids while also a lush garden/outlook for the adults? Versaloc is a mortarless besser block system that still needs a properly engineered footing.
