Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Jul 18, 2011 7:20 pm Does anyone know how deep the ag pipe needs to be? Also, the depth of the trench, and then how much of 'what' is placed in the bottom of the trench, and then what size of ag pipe, and then how much gravel on top? Is it mandatory to have geo fabric? This would be related to minor subsoil drainage in a narrow channel along the house, some 7 m long ... My signature is distracting people from my wise posts ... Re: Aus Standard for depth of drainage pipe ? 4Jul 18, 2011 7:45 pm "AG drains must be laid a minimum of 400mm into the soil and 100mm below any adjacent footing or pavement" I got that info from this pdf http://www.agbc.com.au/forms/STORMWATER ... EMENTS.pdf It's from 06 so unsure if it's still current. Success is the result of good judgment, good judgment is the result of experience, and experience is often the result of bad judgment! Re: Aus Standard for depth of drainage pipe ? 5Jul 18, 2011 7:54 pm I would tend to lay the ag pipe about 300mm min myself. The best thing to fill the trench with would be a 10mm single size aggregate. I wouldn't bother with geofabric after a few years it gets clogged, and the gravel will filter out any dirt. 100mm dia should be big enough for what you need. Re: Aus Standard for depth of drainage pipe ? 6Jul 18, 2011 8:08 pm Thanks guys OK, "AG drains must be laid a minimum of 400mm into the soil and 100mm below any adjacent footing or pavement" This is actually a bit contradicting to me If my pathway is a 100mm thick concrete, and my trench runs along it, should the ag pipe be at the bottom of the trench which is only 100mm deep?? Or 400 deep but the actual pipe is placed some 300 high (or would that be 200?? ) I think I'm missing something My signature is distracting people from my wise posts ... Re: Aus Standard for depth of drainage pipe ? 8Jul 18, 2011 9:12 pm Hi Lex The ag pipe should be below the foundation of the path. preferably at least 100mm below. This keeps any groundwater at least this distance below the path foundations preventing foundation failure damaging the path The Harder You Try - the Luckier You Get ! Re: Aus Standard for depth of drainage pipe ? 9Jul 18, 2011 9:44 pm OK, so my pipe should be min 200 below top of paving, and hopefully have at least 100mm of gravel bed under the pipe? So the trench should be min. 300 deep? I was once told that it's all in 100's - 100mm of gravel below the pipe, 100 is the pipe (diameter), and then 100 of gravel above the pipe, .... , and I forgot what's on top of it all! Re: Aus Standard for depth of drainage pipe ? 11Nov 18, 2011 6:11 am Ive read a few of the posts regarding ag pipe and need to ask for help.. Im currently in the very slow process of digging along the side of the house to put in agg piping. But i have a problem with the below pic.. http://www.flickr.com/photos/55313447@N ... hotostream Agg pipe was placed too close along the back of the house by some previous bright spark... I cant access that area as it is all decked... Also as you can see in the picture the agg pipe goes over the top of the pool piping.. This too me i crazy as it means the water is pooling in that corner. I was going to put a small agg pipe under the pool pipe but there is concrete there so there isnt enough room to move. http://www.flickr.com/photos/55313447@N ... hotostream So should i just cut off the agg pipe right on the corner and then start another section to run down the channel im digging avoiding the pool piping all together? Will the water still pool in that corner? Im thinking of maybe putting in some plants there to help soak up excess water... Also is it better to use geotextile fabric with agg piping socked/unsocked or will socked ag piping with blue metal be sufficient. This is what ive previously dug up... http://www.flickr.com/photos/55313447@N ... hotostream Re: Aus Standard for depth of drainage pipe ? 12Apr 18, 2014 9:21 am bashworth I would tend to lay the ag pipe about 300mm min myself. I wouldn't bother with geofabric after a few years it gets clogged, and the gravel will filter out any dirt. 100mm dia should be big enough for what you need. why would you not have a layer of 10mm in the bottom of the trench, then put sand, then your pipe with geofabric, then sand again above and a few cm over the geofab pipe then back to 10mm and then something larger then back to normal soil (or if your soil is more clay based, maybe mix the soil above with a certain percentage of sand? Slooowwwwly getting a Manhatten 35 in Middleton Grange I believe this is correct. From the picture you can see the power was put in last so the electrician knew where the water was.
