No variety of nutrients going back to create new soil. That is the very purpose of a mulch. To make new soil. Conserving soil moisture is only a side benefit of using a good mulch. I would suggest not using processed mulches. Dyed mulches are like looking at spray on tan in a landscape. I know to many it might seem landscaping is personal preference but the choices we all make in those personal preference have costs on the environment, affect your neighbours and have the ability to make or break a landscape.
