Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Jul 03, 2011 1:54 pm Hi A huge pile of green waste has been dumped on the land we are about to build on for the second time. The first pile was a palm tree I am told and bad for the soil so we removed it all. This time around the pile is enormous and quotes to remove it are around $1200. We are looking at a few options to remove it ourselves (all of which are reasonably expensive) but then came up with the thought that if we can move it to the back of our block of land, it may be able to be used as mulch when we finally get to landscaping. I'm not sure what sort of tree it is but there are alot of woodchips and a fair amount of needle like leaves in the pile. I'm hoping someone may be able to help in telling me if it's OK to use woodchips like this for mulch on the future gardens beds. And if it would be OK to leave a pile there for the next 6 - 8 months, or would it deteriorate too much. I am in the South Eastern Suburbs of Sydney, close to the coast. There are hundreds of trees around with that look like they could be the ones in the pile if that helps. Thanks for any help / advice Re: Woodchips dumped on land - can they be used as mulch 2Jul 03, 2011 5:36 pm I know I would use it if someone was so kind to dump it on my block !!! It will no doubt decrease in size due to the natural breakdown process but should be fine I went outside once. The graphics were alright, but the gameplay sucked! The best by a long way as well. You are extremely lucky Re: Woodchips dumped on land - can they be used as mulch 8Jul 04, 2011 8:54 pm thanks everyone for your replies. Looks like what we thought may have been a problem may actually be a posiitive! Now all we have to do is move it out of the way for the builders to start on the house. Re: Woodchips dumped on land - can they be used as mulch 9Jul 12, 2011 12:16 am You'll be better off using it to cover your block between finishing the house and doing the landscaping. Once you workout the design etc, you will have a heap of new soil just waiting to be dug in along with the required soil amendments. Zeolite, perlite or spongolite. Ask the council if there is a chance of getting build over easement exemption. Sometimes easements are unused and 24cm is not all that much. Good luck. And yes any builder… 2 13771 Just to clarify, I'm not a builder I've read my own council's LEP numerous times and worked with an architect to understand my own lot size and problems. 5 1804 |
