Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Jun 18, 2011 3:03 pm How would I go about making a colorbond gate. I know stratco will make one up for me, but apparently they charge a pretty large premium for it. I'm only after a small gate, 1.2m wide, 1.8m high. I'm familar in making colorbond fence panels, but I would think that a gate would need to be braced better. I've googled and can't find anything. Re: Make a colorbond GATE 2Jun 18, 2011 3:32 pm Might be worth having a look around B*****gs. Last time I was there they had some galvanised frames which you could assemble and rivet the colorbond to. The Harder You Try - the Luckier You Get ! Stratco do an adjustable gate frame and the guys can then work out how many sheets, posts ect you will need. Can't remember the price but was alot cheaper than having them make up a gate to size. Im going to need exactly the same thing when our place is built Would love to hear how you go At this stage, the Bunnings adjustables at $100-110 looks like the go.I will most likely clad it with either wooden slats or aluminium slats painted in colorbond colours (dependant on price). I'm also contemplating another option, which is to get dad to weld a frame for me. I will likely get this done in around 2 weeks time, so I will post what I end up doing Re: Make a colorbond GATE 11Jul 09, 2015 1:03 pm So since then - i've done this twice. First time dad welded a frame, and we installed the gate. Was a lot of mucking about and finish was ok. We've since moved house and this time - I got my gate made by http://www.aussiefencing.com.au/ 1.5m x 1.75m fence cost $350 including the two mounting posts, hinges and everything else required minus concrete. I paid an extra $25 for a horizontal brace (bringing it to $375) Well worth it, the finish was better and very easy to install. Re: Make a colorbond GATE 12Jul 14, 2015 3:27 pm I made a gate pretty quickly without a special frame. Worked fine, but was a bit flexy. It was basically a colorbond panel but rather than screwed to a post, was screwed to hinges, I copied the one from the side of the house. Cheap and easy, but I would't want to use it on a gate used everyday. Ours was basically a shortcut to get the ball from over the back fence, or push the mower through to mow the embankment behind the house which only occurred once a week or so. The one on the side of the house was used more often, but I never got around to fixing it before we moved out and it worked fine provided it was propped open and not alowed to swing shut if you could avoid it. I should have followed up on this thread. So, the pier foundation wasn't large enough on the side it was leaning towards, and the NBN cable went through the pier, just… 8 12130 Get some long brass machine screws and bolt right through the gate and put brass acorn nuts and washers on the other side.
