I can however smack naughty birds that attack newcomers. My mother informs me that smacking is not the done thing anymore but let me tell you the evil ones were no longer attacking my new Ancona today. Some things are worth waiting for. Re: Chooks 68Jul 17, 2011 9:18 pm TBH- I'm not sure I could either...but if someone else does the job I can pluck & gut! [and i specifically want 3 different types of chook and most market chooks are just ISA browns] anyone got any leads?!! must be in melbourne, and within an hour or so of northern suburbs. thanks!! TOUGHEN UP PRINCESS Re: Chooks 70Nov 02, 2011 8:46 pm I got 3 salmon faverolles from Abundant Layers http://www.abundantlayers.com/ they are in emerald but it wasn't that long a drive 'A bottle of wine contains more philosophy than all the books in the world.' It's sure not leafy plants. Re: Chooks 75Jan 05, 2012 9:54 am Re: Chooks 76Jan 05, 2012 11:48 am These are my beautiful babies, they are all heritage breeds and i was told the naked necks are endangered, i have my chooks for bug control not eggs (scorpion problem) i also have guinea fowl because they are the best bug hunters in the world. I have come to really love the guinea fowl, they are not pretty but when you look closely they are amazing, its like they have white paint decorating their neck. I will post photos of my guineas soon. One day i will build a chook pen palace so i can have laying hens. Photos of my babies are ..... the top ones are naked necks, they don't feel the heat as much because of their featherless necks and they are great hunters that work all day. The other chooks are big bird is a cream legbar, he is so gentle I have a favarole bamtem roster The last two are dorkings, they love catching flies Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ I have a duck on a nest at the moment and the guineas had layed eggs in the nest, we are eagerly waiting to see if the guineas hatch......any day now.....can you imagine what the duck will think seeing little guineas instead of ducklings, the ducklings won't hatch for another 10 days Re: Chooks 77Jan 05, 2012 12:04 pm Fairy blue I love you nesting box, Lisanne I love your salmon faverolles are they full size or batam? Fu Manchu I think the yolk in caged birds are pale because they only have grain to eat, grain is pale in color, most people with back yard chooks feed them everything chooks are meant to eat with grain to top it off, such as bugs weeds scraps ect and that make very happy chooks Re: Chooks 78Jan 05, 2012 12:21 pm excited, you might be able to help me. I am looking after the chooks from my school atm. There are 3 isa browns and one that we call 'ugly chook'. Even the kids at school call her that! This one was donated to our school when vandals killed some of our chooks and let the other out. She lays white eggs. Do you have any idea what breed this is? Re: Chooks 79Jan 05, 2012 12:41 pm Wow she has very strong looking legs that remind me of a jungle Fowl type chook can't think of the name at the moment, her crop is also very small? Is she smaller than the other chooks and are her eggs small like a batams? She looks like her feathers are missing from her neck, are they or is it an illusion? I can show her photo to some people I know that breed rare and unusual chickens but it will be a few weeks before I can see them. I love a challenge so leave it with me I think she is lovely but I like the unusal (special) things in life that's because thats just like me haha Re: Chooks 80Jan 05, 2012 12:48 pm She is smaller than the other chooks and her eggs are smaller too, not as small as a bantams but smaller than the isa browns. She does have feathers missing off her neck and off her rear end also, not sure if she is doing it to herself. She is bullied by the others but I haven't seen them pulling her feathers out. Someone mentioned she may be a meat bird rather than an egg laying breed. I feel really sorry for her! Thanks for taking on this challenge. |
