Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 May 31, 2011 10:30 pm Both our neighbours on the side and back have the old type of Buffalo. It is growing rampant through the fences ( I have found it growing through the good neighbour fencing at my waist height). The side we can keep under control as it's the dead side of the house and we have just concrete and stones down there, but the back is starting to invade our EZ! My hubby is going to try and dig a little trench and put some sleepers or blocks along the fenceline to keep it at bay, but there is already so many runners through our lawn and I know it will grow over the top as it is growing through the fence. I don't think the neighbours keep it under control anyway, but how can we stop it invading our EZ? Re: keeping the neighbours buffalo out? 2Jun 01, 2011 11:19 am Sure its not Kikuyu instead of buffalo? Buffalo isn't known for being rampant like you describe. If its kikuyu you can selectively spray it with a bit of trial and error see this link; http://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=23653&p=633105&hilit=DSMA#p633105 Re: keeping the neighbours buffalo out? 3Jun 01, 2011 12:21 pm I don't think it's kike. We had that in our last house and the blades were totally different. The one to the side I'm pretty sure is just the plain old original buffalo as it is really crap looking and really scratchy to walk on, but not sure about the problem one behind. The runners are really thick and the leaves are way bigger and thicker than any kike I've seen before. Re: keeping the neighbours buffalo out? 4Jun 01, 2011 12:36 pm That makes it easy then, just use any product containing dicamba. It will kill the buffalo and not the EZ. Thanks I'll see if I can get some today. I think we pulled it all out over the weekend, but will have another look. Re: keeping the neighbours buffalo out? 7Jun 01, 2011 1:48 pm Bindi and clover killers usually have dicamba in it, just get the product that says "do not use on buffalo lawns". And apply as instructed on the bottle. EZ has the same sort of herbicide resistance as couch. If the other grasses arent mixed in with other plants or turf you can just use glyphosate/round up every few months to kill it off. Glypho isnt selective like dicamba though, also dicamba will kill any plants if you spray them, its only selective with grasses. Appreciate that Chippy.
