Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Jun 07, 2011 12:05 am Hi, We've got a tree fern that we really liked, and wanted to save, but may actually need to get rid of it. Before we do, can anyone help identify what tree fern it is (ie Rough Tree Fern (Cyathea australis) or Soft Tree Fern (Dicksonia antarctica))? Based on the info provided about the two at this this site, I am leaning towards the rough tree fern. In the pic below (bad one of the fern...squint and you might see it), it is the tall one to the right of the pic. It is the one with the wall that kinks around it. We kinked the wall intentionally to cater for the tree, but it is interferring with further development plans and so it looks like the tree is going to lose it's position to straighten up the wall. It gets some shelter in winter and seems to be mostly green, but in summer it gets quite burnt. I can't think of any other position in our garden where it will get shelter from the sun in summer and therefore I think I'm just going to have to pull it out and leave it to die. Please feel free to let me know if these are in fact some god awful plant that are horrible to our environment in some way shape or form. That way I won't feel sad as it struggles to cling to life. Thanks, Chris Re: Which tree fern do I have? 2Jun 07, 2011 12:08 am definately the rough tree fern. I went outside once. The graphics were alright, but the gameplay sucked! That'll ease my conscience when I dig it out and leave it to die. ![]() Re: Which tree fern do I have? 4Jun 07, 2011 12:48 am Mate why not dig it up, pot it in some cheap plastic rubbish bin with holes drilled in it and put it on GumTree for sale for a carton or free to good home. It will handle full sun at this time of year. Re: Which tree fern do I have? 5Jun 07, 2011 12:53 am That is not a bad idea at all. Then if it dies, then it'll be sap on someone else's hands. Not mine. I like it. Consider it done. If anyone from the forum wants it, and they can come and pick it up, then PM me (assuming you're in Perth). Otherwise, it'll be on gumtree after next weekend.
