Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 May 21, 2011 3:26 pm We have a garden area adjacent to our alfresco that is approx 2m wide from pavers to fence. Photinia Robusta has been planted along the fence to screen neighbors and we expect it to be trimmed to at least 1m wide. Along the edge of the pavers we've planted Dianella Tasmanica. This will reach possibly 60cm wide and high. So it's OK for that to be close to the base of a tree or shrub. Our question is: what do we plant in such a small space that is a feature (wanting to plant 3 specimens)? We really only have 1m or so of space for three small, pruned shrubs or trees. Originally we'd though of planting something like ornamental pear. Or conifers. Maybe a Mop Top Maple (NOT Robinia!)? Or some kind of weeping tree? Something else to consider is that the area is prone to "swamping" in winter as there is seepage pipe in part of the area. So whatever we plant would have to be pretty tough! We live in the Adelaide Hills so frost tolerance is important too. The site faces south and gets a lot of sun. What do you think? Re: Pls help us choose the perfect tree/shrub! Adelaide Hill 2May 23, 2011 10:22 pm Magnolia Kay Paris, you won't have space for much else! Re: Pls help us choose the perfect tree/shrub! Adelaide Hill 4Jun 05, 2011 11:37 pm Because you would do good soil prep first and add lots of perlite, zeolite and compost. Then of course a solid cover of raw uncomposted mulch from your local tree contractor 100mm thick. That insulates the soil and perlite will help to some extent too. We used a smaller qld builder who went bankrupt about 12 months after completion of ours. It was a shame as they were good and relatively cheap and I would have used… 3 4701 Even if it's not being sub-divided and you want to keep it as Torrens title, you will still need to talk to a town planner or Council themselves, to see if they will allow… 1 11035 Thanks again Simeon for being so elaborate. Appreciate it. Its gives us a very idea. Kind Regards 4 3674 |
