Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design Re: Colorbond Fence Yay or Nay 24Sep 25, 2011 11:01 am Helyn Hi catjim - pardon my ignorance but I dont know what state Pakenham is in - but I doubt you get hotter summers than us on Eyre Peninsula, west coast of SA Obviously one must plant the right plants for one's area/climate - I dont try to grow tulips I have a sort of cream colour fence - sorry, dont know exact colour, was included as part of house/land package. Lighter colour is probably better for heat issues than dark colour Also have colourbond shed in same colour. Anyway, just to prove my point (and because I like showing off my garden ) here are some photos. Defy anyone to say colourbond fencing has stopped my garden growing Actually most new fences around here are colourbond - must be the done thing here and have never heard of issues with gardens growing becasue of it. Hi Helyn Not ignorant at all. Pakenham is an outer South Eastern suburb of Melbourne. We've only been in here since April so yet to find out what a summer is like. I do know that we get very ferocious winds sometimes which are mainly from the west, south west or north west. Our alfresco faces north and west and we'll currently got our outdoor setting in the spare room because it wouldn't fare very well under the alfresco. We are looking at extending the alfresco out to the back fence which would stop a lot of the weather problems. Just waiting to see what happens behind us before doing anything. We have green colourbond fences (sort of a lightish green) and I really envy your cream fence. Another part of our estate has beige which would fit in even better with our colours, but green is what we have to have so green is what we've got. We've got a narrow sideway around 2.1mtrs and are trying to work out what we can plant there that will survive with probably no sun in winter and with sun heating up the colourbond in summer. We want to be able to have a path down there as well so whatever we plant needs to be reasonably narrow. Anyway, looks like your plants are fairing very well up against the colourbond so that eases my mind on that front. Your garden is looking great. Your house roof does not show rusting other than some surface rust on the flashings. In my opinion you dont need to replace or paint the roof other than treat surface rust… 1 10208 Hi all, Our boundary perimeter fences need replacing (3 sides). From everyone's experience, what would you install? Timber lapped and capped OR colorbond? Thank you. 0 2877 You should pressure clean your roof first and make sure the paint you buy also is anti mould. 4 18563 |
