Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 May 13, 2011 10:45 am I have received a quote for the attached plan which despite the cost is not very exciting nor what we want, so I'm looking for some ideas. For a start there is too much lawn and I think it is recommended we only have 20% lawn (120 sq m) - this plan has 160 sq m. We want vegie/herb beds (I thought perhaps along the left hand side of the fence), palms at the back and bottom right hand side which will be the ent area. We have a 3m easement at the rear so can't really do too much there. I don't think the shed is in the best spot either? We were also thinking we'd like to maintain access to the left hand side as this is 4m wide so should extend paving? The front garden should be low maintenance - don't really want lawn. I don't need help with plants at this stage just layout and where to put things. We have a north facing garden. Thanks!! http://i1235.photobucket.com/albums/ff440/Nicholl72/gardenplan-1.jpg For info on our build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=43093 Built the McLaren by Dechellis - slab down 22 Feb - handover 30 Aug 2011 - and gardens finished 9 Dec 2012!! Re: Help with landscaping ideas please 2May 13, 2011 11:26 am Do you have or are planning on having kids? I'm positive I would loose my mind at the weekends if I couldn't send my kids outside to play on the grass. Lawn is also cheaper to do than a bunch of paving as well. Does your family room open out onto the rear easement? If so, then the placement of the shed is a going to be a compromise or you could look at a slimline type shed and place it up the left hand side of the house. Other than that I think it may be stuck where it is. I'll take a pic of my low maintenance front yard and post it here later today for some inspiration for you. Hope this helps. Rgds Leonard. Re: Help with landscaping ideas please 3May 13, 2011 11:45 am Thanks Leonard the picture would be great. No, no kids only a dog so we want some lawn but not too much - it's a lot of work to look after lawn in Adelaide with droughts etc. I think the shed has to go elsewhere, don't want to look at it as soon as we step outside For info on our build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=43093 Built the McLaren by Dechellis - slab down 22 Feb - handover 30 Aug 2011 - and gardens finished 9 Dec 2012!! Re: Help with landscaping ideas please 4May 13, 2011 2:12 pm I've been thinking that perhaps a Japanese style garden would look nice in the front - it would really suit the style of house too. Has anyone else done anything like that? For info on our build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=43093 Built the McLaren by Dechellis - slab down 22 Feb - handover 30 Aug 2011 - and gardens finished 9 Dec 2012!! Help with landscaping ideas please 9May 13, 2011 3:55 pm I wish I could make a good suggestion for you but I have no idea even for our own. Yes 120m2 of grass is heaps. We have 110 but perfect for our needs. I like Japanese style gardens.. Beautiful! Re: Help with landscaping ideas please 10May 13, 2011 3:57 pm I think it will be easier when we are there and it's no longer a construction site!! Help with landscaping ideas please 11May 13, 2011 4:05 pm Re: Help with landscaping ideas please 12May 13, 2011 4:16 pm Yes that looks nice - no it's 4 metres wide - it would cost a fortune and it gets all the summer sun so would be a scorcher - just paving 1 metre around the perimeter. This would be a good idea for where the washing line goes - thanks Tam!
