Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Jan 09, 2008 5:55 pm We are now in the process of having our front yard dug up and levelled out and all the brickwork removed. I have had a few quotes which have ranged from $650.00 to $1000.00. One of them suggested that we have good quality brickie sand bought in to level out the whole area. Now we hadnt even thought about this. We were just going to have it dug up and levelled out and then once our brick wall was built we would decide what we were going to do.. Is it necessary to have this brickie sand bought in - would it save time to have it bought in now - or is this just an extra cost that they are trying to add on?? Re: Bobcat work 2Jan 09, 2008 6:37 pm What are you going to be doing in the front yard?
Building or putting turf down and gardens? It will be either paving, turf, liquid limestone or decking. Also some garden beds - just a place to sit, relax and enjoy really. Re: Bobcat work 4Jan 09, 2008 7:45 pm OK……You will need to know before hand what you are going to do with the space.
All that builders sand is a waist if you are going to deck, lay turf, or form up gardens. The sand will be needed for paving or limestone. Best you get your head around it, before you get the guys into do the work. For your gardens you need good loamy soil, not sand. To lay turf you also need a good layer a loamy soil for the grass roots to set into. So as you can see, some thought will be needed. Perhaps a landscaper for advice? We didnt get the brickie sand in as we still have not yet finalised plans for the courtyard. No we are just waiting for the brickie to start building the courtyard wall. We are thinking of putting some decking around the spa pool with a decked area for a small table and chairs. I am also thinking of having a couple of rectangle planter boxes built with room to have a wooden bench inbetween. We would also like to have a shade sail installed over the spa pool.
