I have planted 2 grevillea moonlight at the front of our horizontal slat fence that separates the front from the back but they are far from thriving. They keep browning off (he tips of the leaves look burnt and then it spreads to the whole branch) and despite my efforts to trim them back and ensure they get a dose of seasol every couple of months they just aren't growing.
After about 12 months I think it's time I called it quits and replaced them with something else that will grow to a bushy shrub and produce a screen of green/flowers to about 2.5m high and about 1.5m wide. I also have 3 proteas in the same bed (every second plant) that will grow over time, and I've had no issues with them growing.
I think it may be our soil that is the culprit, or maybe not enough water - but we have has a very wet summer so I'm not sure my lack of watering would be the cause. I thought of all the plants we've grown, the grevilleas would be a success but sadly not.
Is there some other plant that will grow in clay-ish soils that will suit a predominantly native garden to replace them? I'd prefer a flowering variety with either a pale yellow or purple flower.
