Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design Re: What a stunning front garden!!!! 101Aug 14, 2008 11:17 pm Very interesting Anne. Yes the accident was a freak thing...but it took them ages to have it repaired and i haven't seen them living there since it happened!
The house on the corner of Wurrundjeri and Duke has been finished very quickly in the past few weeks, so not sure what is happening there. People are living there we think as there are lights on... There is a house at the end of our court in the Chase that has stopped and has had nothing done for months and it looks like a MB home....will have to check it out....when out walking the dog... Its such a shame.... Re: What a stunning front garden!!!! 102Aug 16, 2008 11:18 am I was actually thinking it's an incredible coincidence that someone in this forum had been taking photos and stuff and posting about it here.... and then that same house was damaged.
Perhaps some sicko spotted the house on the forums, and decided to go and mess it up, knowing that you guys would be back to update about it? A long shot, I know... but still.. quite an extreme coincidence. Edit: Oh, and by the way, I'm not suggesting someone intentionally smashed their car into the house - that's just ridiculous. But perhaps they intended to drive past and do a burnout or tear up the garden with their car or something, and lost control? I mean, there's every possibility it IS just a coincidence... but someone smashing into a house with their car isn't an every day occurance (it happens, but not every day), so it's just a real coincidence that it happened to a house that people were discussing on here. Re: What a stunning front garden!!!! 103Aug 16, 2008 8:06 pm Is this house & garden fully repaired now Phoenix?
Seems that the box in the nature strip turned into a useful spot for a skip. Feel so sorry for anyone whose house is damaged like this - especially when it is brand new - think I would be fixing and moving if it was mine. Re: What a stunning front garden!!!! 105Aug 16, 2008 8:17 pm I'm sorry but everytime this thread is bumped up it just makes me really uncomfortable. I think it's really wrong to post pics and the address of someone's home without their permission.
It doesn't matter who it belongs to. It's a gross invasion of privacy and I'd be mortified if someone plastered pics of my home all over the net without asking. We all make the decision as to what pics and info about ourselves and our homes we do and don't post. Everyone else deserves the same right. Re: What a stunning front garden!!!! 111Aug 17, 2008 3:33 pm mattwalker Have you seen street view recently??? Hahaha! I personally don't understand everyones anger and worry about Streetview .. I mean.. people are free to walk or drive past your house every day anyway! It's very very cleverly done though, I was amazed - every angle, 360degrees... just amazing. But this post has a series of shots of someones home over a period of time and the encouragement to go and check out their garden with the address provided!!!!!! All well before it was on the market. I personally don't think it's right that's all. Matt, you I and everyone else on here makes the decision about what we do and don't provide, photo and info wise. That's how it should be. I just don't think anyone has the right to make that decision for another homeowner. One thing I enjoy about this site is the respect for people's privacy and this post makes me question that a little quite frankly. Jo I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Jo Yeah, no I agree with you about that bit Jo - putting the address up, and many photos taken of it as it progressed is a bit invasive. I mean, we take progression photos of our house building every couple of days - but that's OUR house and our choice. You're very right.. putting the address with it is kinda scary. Imagine coming onto a forum and finding pictures of your house on there - you might be flattered with the compliments, but then once you see someone saying the address and "go check it out!" I would be well and truly creeped out. Re: What a stunning front garden!!!! 114Aug 17, 2008 5:40 pm joles I just don't think anyone has the right to make that decision for another homeowner. Pretty sure it's not illegal, so anyone has the right to do it... It's just a personal moral choice if you do or not. I wouldn't have a problem with someone posting photos of my place on a forum like this, especially if the purpose was to complement it. I'd be interested to know what the actual rights are then for a homeowner regarding photography of their home in a public street. I don't think it has anything to do with the actual legal rights of anyone - I suppose nothing is to stop a stranger walking past and taking a photo of you, your dog, your car, your house etc The issue here, is that someone took those photos, posted them on a public forum and gave the address. Again, not about legality, but more of a moral issue. Re: What a stunning front garden!!!! 118Aug 18, 2008 3:55 pm Wow, such a fuss....
For your information members, the address has already been removed from the site. For those that think i acted either "immorally" or "illegally", please feel free to contact me via PM if you would like to discuss my actions further.... Re: What a stunning front garden!!!! 119Aug 30, 2008 8:11 pm Hi all
Interesting topic. Mikaela, this from the Arts Law Website in case you were still interested. "As there are no privacy laws in Australia, there are no specific laws preventing a photographer from taking photographs of people and private property from a vantage point on public property. However, other Australian laws do incidentally restrict the use that can be made of photographs of people and their property. For this reason, it is recommended that all photographers use a written release when photographing individuals or private property in order to prevent any infringement of the peoples' rights. Such a release needs to be unambiguous and to clearly authorise use of the photographs in the way in which the photographer contemplates." Probably take a bit of research in the area of privacy law to find out what restrictions this involves, I'm guessing if you are making money out of the photograph then there would be an issue. Just as a sidenote, I have a feeling that this might have been a company owned house. MB built a lot of houses and then sold them afterwards. It also looked pretty new and not lived in inside. In light of their current issues this is why the house may be up for sale and may I add Pheonix, probably answers the question as why it took so long to get fixed. In my opinion the garden has definitely been done by the gardener who does their display homes because it is pretty much their signature garden. I think this is more an issue about photography and believe me, from being involved in photography for about 15 years, not a simple topic. You'll find many views and discussions regarding this on the photography forums out there. Fig Landscapes has produced an e-book and native plant index, available for purchase from their website.
