Re: what should i plant down my 40m driveway 24Apr 13, 2011 7:43 pm 40m of hedge with some of those along there would be a show stopper. Just thinking, They'd fill out well and in that pic you can see one of the small Acacia cognata hybrids under it as well. That would be a hell of a combo over 40m. I'm sure we will think of a few more ideas Re: what should i plant down my 40m driveway 25Apr 13, 2011 8:38 pm im liking that tree Fu. I think ill do some more reading about this one no hedging, no maintenance or very very minimal, my parents have a very love/hate relationship with there 3 acres of manicured gardens due to maintenance of there hedging and pruning but boy does it look great - very formal like a gardening magazine cover. But in saying that. i have 2 boys under 3.5 , they keep me busy enough and would rather not do to much gardening ...lol Our Acreage Build The Lakeview Lodge - Beechwood Homes 01/04/10 YES 2010 - Deposit paid 23/09 - PCI CANCELLED 28/09 - PCI - will it happen.-18 months later 07/10/11 - ITS OURS..WOOHOO Re: what should i plant down my 40m driveway 26Apr 13, 2011 8:41 pm fu, can you let me know what the pros/cons are compared to the Acacia cognata and flowering ash? im starting to get get torn between the two. Well Flowering Ash isn't as soft or flowing in appearance. Flowering Ash is an exotic tree and not considered waterwise. I know the East is not short of water just now but the dry will return. They have a root system that in your case is not an issue. Flowers will be a bit messy but again out your way, that won't be an issue and in fact will only enhance the feel of the drive into the property. I have had them shed a heap of leaves when it gets seriously cold but that is more due to the ones here in the west being a bit soft when it comes to cold. They have a more rounded tree shape. The flowers are what really give these a soft look. They can look like they are covered in a light frost or snow cover sometimes with some specimens Others can go a bit yuck. They will grow a bit funny when exposed to consistent strong winds from a particular direction. ie they will lean or have less foliage on one side compared to another. They can be shaped easy. The Acacia cognata give an absolute flowing effect. Very soft, excellent habitat plant. Amazing flower show. Very good when it comes to water. Both require some extra water when starting them though. Any tees and shrubs will. roots are not an issue anywhere. They do drop leaves but they are not messy, easy to sweep up in court yards and the like. On your property it will not matter at all. The leaves however make an excellent mulch to go back under the trees. Much denser. Sound amazing in the wind. Handle wind better. Can create an avenue that you will just love every time you arrive home. It would become a show stopping entry like no other plant. Sorry I can envisage what this will look like and there is no competition in my mind as to which to choose The A. cognata Tying to talk up the Flowering Ash but its hard To be fair here is some of the previous info on them and also a few of his cousins As you can see, for new members, there is a absolute tonne of info here at Homeone to draw on. There is more than just what you see on this, or the first 2 pages Have a good search, there is some gold in here Even from before I came along many years ago search.php?keywords=Fraxinus&terms=all&author=Fu+Manchu&fid[]=19&sc=1&sf=all&sk=t&sd=d&sr=posts&st=0&ch=300&t=0&submit=Search viewtopic.php?f=19&t=37357 viewtopic.php?f=19&t=25531&p=343012&hilit=Fraxinus#p343012 viewtopic.php?f=19&t=22580&p=297296&hilit=Fraxinus#p297296 viewtopic.php?f=19&t=8895&hilit=Fraxinus found some good giggles and ideas in here as well. Re: what should i plant down my 40m driveway 28Apr 13, 2011 9:27 pm For West Aussies, there is one better still. The Zig Zag wattle. Just amazing. More like spanish moss than a tree I think in Victoria there is a few native nurseries doing this West Aussie marvel. One near Geelong is a ripper! You can more of our plants there than over here in the West. They also grow them easier than we can so that says something for the conditions here compared to over your way It's very doable 0 4689 How long is a "long period"? For a few weeks, it should be ok.
